What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft have spent well over a decade evolving, fixing bugs and polishing worlds that players keep finding new ways to break. Building something that open-ended is the kind of work that can swallow decades.

I looked at that and thought, "Right. I'll have a go at it myself."

Forever World Craft is one developer's attempt to build a multiplayer world that you shape together, with NPCs who have to live and work in whatever magnificent chaos you create. Terrain, construction, resources, NPC decisions and multiplayer all have to work together. Every new system gives the others another way to go spectacularly wrong.

One developer. An entire world. A frankly unreasonable amount of hubris.

Early Access is where that ambition meets actual players. I need to see what you build, what you break, where the simulation surprises you, and where the game simply gets in your way. Your feedback will help me decide what needs fixing, refining or rethinking as the game develops.

I brought the hubris. You bring the reality check.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I do not yet have a reliable estimate for how long Early Access will last. The scope is substantial, the systems are closely connected, and I am developing the game on my own. The time needed will depend on how the core world-building, multiplayer and NPC experience develops through playtesting and feedback. I plan to share progress and update this answer when I can give a more useful estimate.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“My goal for the full version is a more complete and dependable experience of building a living world together. I plan to improve the depth and clarity of the existing building and settlement systems, NPC behavior and work, and the way those systems function in multiplayer. Usability, balance, performance and stability are also priorities.

Player feedback will help me decide which parts need expansion and which need refinement. These are development goals; the exact scope may change as I learn from the community.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Forever World Craft has not launched on Steam yet. The current development build includes single-player and multiplayer world building, procedurally generated voxel terrain, resource gathering, crafting, farming, construction and settlement management. NPC settlers perform jobs, carry supplies and respond to needs such as food and rest. Players can explore in first-person or third-person view and use an overhead colony camera to organize work.

These systems are still in development. Bugs, unfinished behavior, balance issues and performance problems should be expected. Updates that change the world format may require starting a new world; long-term save compatibility is not guaranteed. This description will be updated to reflect the build offered when Early Access begins.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to increase the price in small steps as major content updates expand and improve the game during Early Access. The full-release price is expected to be higher than the initial Early Access price. The exact amounts and timing have not been decided, and I plan to announce price increases in advance. Existing owners will not need to repurchase the base game when its price rises.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to use the Steam Community discussions for feedback, bug reports and conversations about the game's direction, and Steam announcements to share development progress and changes.

I especially want to hear about your experiences building together: what you tried to create, how NPCs behaved, where tools were difficult to understand, and where multiplayer or performance got in the way. Reports with clear steps and context will help me investigate problems. Feedback will inform priorities alongside the game's core vision and what I can realistically deliver as a solo developer; I cannot promise to implement every suggestion.”

About This Game

Build a world together. Give it a life of its own.

Forever World Craft is a multiplayer world-building sandbox about creating a place that people call home. Shape the landscape with friends, build settlements block by block, and watch NPCs make a life in the world you create.

A world made together

Bring your ideas into the same world. Work side by side on a village, divide up building projects, or head out to gather materials for the next addition. Every home, farm and workshop becomes part of a place you have made together.

Build places with a purpose

Shape the terrain, lay out your settlement and turn a patch of wilderness into a home. Build with blocks, roofs, stairs and doors, then furnish the spaces inside. Connect homes, growing areas and storage so your settlement has room for everyday life.

Watch your NPCs live in it

Your settlers have work to do and needs of their own. Watch them travel between jobs, carry supplies, tend crops, eat and rest. Give them places to live and useful work to do, and see the settlement you designed become part of their daily routine.

Get close. Step back. Keep creating.

Explore your world from first-person or third-person view, then switch to the overhead colony camera to plan the next project. Designate work, organize supplies and grow your settlement while staying connected to the places you build.

From the first home to the next big idea

  • Build together in online multiplayer, or work on a world on your own.
  • Explore and reshape a procedurally generated voxel landscape.
  • Gather resources, craft, farm and build your settlements.
  • Make homes and workplaces for NPC settlers with individual skills and needs.
  • Organize construction, farming, storage and hauling from the colony camera.
  • Move between hands-on exploration and an overhead view of your growing world.
