A top-down survival game where you work your way down zombie-infested high-rises, floor by floor from the roof. Lower floors mean more radiation and zombies, but better loot. Stay undetected when you can, and use what you bring back to repair your bunker and recruit survivors. Single-player only.

About This Demo

HAZPIT is a top-down survival game where you work your way down zombie-infested high-rises from the roof, floor by floor, collecting supplies to build up your bunker. It's a single-player game with no multiplayer.

You go down buildings from the top

A helicopter drops you on the roof, and from there you look for the stairs down. Lower floors have higher radiation and more zombies, but the loot gets better. Some floors have an emergency exit and some don't. If your bag is full or things get rough, head back. If you've got room to spare, go down one more.

Staying undetected is better than fighting

Each zombie's field of view is drawn on the floor, and so is how far your noise carries. You can use both to stay out of trouble.
  • Get behind a zombie and you can take it out in one move. The takedown depends on whether you're using your bare hands, a blade or a blunt weapon.
  • You can fight head-on too, but your weapons wear out and you get hungry faster.
  • If you're spotted, roll out of the way. If you're grabbed, mash Space to break free.

Use what you bring back to build up the bunker

Every bunker facility starts out broken. You gather materials, repair them one by one, and level them up. There are eight: workbench, kitchen, farm, traps, water station, salvage bench, research bench and rest area.
  • Each facility needs a survivor assigned to it. Survivors assigned to a facility can't go on an expedition that day.
  • One expedition takes one day. Crafting and repairs you set up are done when you get back.
  • More survivors means more mouths to feed.
  • Weapons and armor come in different grades, with random bonuses each time you find them.

Find survivors and bring them home

You can run into other survivors inside the buildings. Offer them something you're carrying and try to talk them into coming with you. Each has different stats and skills, plus a personal quest. You pick who goes out each time, and the rest work or rest at the bunker.

Getting knocked out doesn't mean starting over

If a survivor is knocked out inside a building, they're brought back to the bunker and spend a few days recovering. Their belongings stay where they fell, and you can recover some of them if you return within a few days. The bunker and your other survivors stay as they are.

Sometimes the zombies come to you

Every few days a horde shows up at the bunker. When that happens, the survivors who stayed at the bunker fight alongside you. A boss zombie arrives at the end.
