What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Black Zero is a co-op shooter, and co-op games get better when real squads play them. The core game is already fun and playable: you can shoot, take cover, roll and revive your teammates, solo or with up to 4 players. We want player feedback now on the things that matter most in a squad shooter: difficulty, enemy pacing, weapon feel, and how it plays with 1 player versus 4. Early Access lets us tune the game with the community instead of guessing alone.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Black Zero to be in Early Access for about [6–12 months]. That depends on player feedback and how much content we add along the way. We'd rather take a little longer and get it right than rush a 1.0 release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the game in these areas:

• More campaign missions, maps and objective types
• A fuller Horde mode, with more enemy types, squad injections, drops and longer runs
• More weapons, classes and abilities to unlock
• Better online play, including more polish for Horde and Team Deathmatch
• A mission results screen, better progression, and general balance and performance work
• More story and cinematic level intros

The final list will depend on what players tell us they want most.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Black Zero is playable from start to finish in its current modes:

Campaign: 1 mission with objectives and a boss battle, enemy waves and extraction
Horde: wave survival in an arena, with 5, 10 or 20 wave runs
Team Deathmatch: squad vs squad, with bots filling empty slots
Tutorial

It supports 1–4 players in local couch co-op or online co-op, plus four difficulty levels and AI companions for solo play. You should expect bugs, balance changes and some rough edges. Some menus and features are still placeholders.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price a little when the game leaves Early Access, to reflect the extra content added. Early Access players get every future update at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll stay in close contact with players through the Steam forums. We read bug reports, balance feedback and feature ideas, and they'll directly shape what we build next. We'll post regular update notes so everyone can see what changed and why. Some features may go to a public test branch first so players can try them before they go live.”

About This Game

A deadly agent called Black Zero has been sold on the black market. There is no cure. Fire is the only thing that kills it. Your squad is the only one trying to destroy it.

Black Zero is a top-down co-op shooter for 1–4 players. Play on the couch or online. You lead Wolf, a four-person special forces squad caught in a three-way war. A rebel army wants the agent released. A private military company wants it back so they can sell it. And the infected want nothing at all, except you.

Three enemies. One battlefield.

Rebels charge in and trade lives for ground. Mercenaries use cover, call out your position and flank you. The infected just keep coming. They will also fight each other, so read the battle and use the chaos.

Built for co-op

Play solo, with friends on one screen, or online. Enemy numbers scale with your squad size. Revive downed teammates, cover each other and push forward together. Playing alone? Bring AI squadmates you can order to hold, follow or take cover.

Four classes

Pick Assault, Gunner, Marksman or Medic. Each has its own weapons, stats and ability. Mix them however you like, even four of the same.

Game modes

Campaign: a story-driven mission campaign that gets darker the further in you go.

Horde: the infected come in waves, and every wave is bigger than the last. Choose how you play it:

  • Waves: hold out for 5, 10 or 20 waves.

  • Sabotage: plant C4 on four enemy targets, in any order. Every charge you plant brings the horde down on you, so defend it until it blows. Stall too long and the horde comes for you anyway. Destroy all four to win.

Team Deathmatch: squad vs squad, with bots filling any empty slots.

Earn and upgrade

Earn credits and XP in the campaign and spend them on gear between missions.

Four difficulty levels

From Recruit to Elite. Harder settings mean more enemies, smarter AI, stronger friendly fire and fewer helpful outlines.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The developers describe the content like this:

Blood and Zombie Dismemberment exist in the game. Gore can be disabled through the Settings menu.
