What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Connection Empire combines building an internet provider with real map data. During Early Access, we want player feedback on the introduction, network expansion, customer service and the long-term appeal of its business decisions. Balancing, usability and map-data delivery are still being developed.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to remain in Early Access for approximately twelve months. This is an estimated timeframe. The actual duration may change depending on development progress, practical testing and player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version, we aim for better-balanced company progression, clearer workflows and more reliable map-data delivery. Other priorities include performance, usability and additional gameplay content. Scope and priorities may change with player feedback; individual additions are not guaranteed.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Windows single-player version includes a 1983 start, rented-office selection and expansion, a founding dossier, network construction, tariffs, customers, monthly finances, outages and manually handled support enquiries. It also includes paid technology upgrades tied to the era, historical text cards and 26 fictional provider profiles. The interface and text are available in German and English.

The present-day OpenStreetMap map can be explored worldwide; network expansion initially covers Germany. Buildings and mapped addresses load by area. Official parcel-data sources are configured for seven German states. Complete coverage and historical map data are not guaranteed. Loading new areas requires internet access. Server-backed AI is not configured; rental offers and economic parameters are game assumptions.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The regular price will remain the same when the game leaves Early Access and moves to the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to gather feedback through the game's Steam Discussions. Specific observations about the introduction, map-data delivery, support workflows and economic balancing will be particularly helpful. This feedback should help us prioritise improvements and further content. We have not set a fixed response or update schedule.”

About This Game

Your company. Your connections. Your decisions.

Germany, 1983: you begin as a small data and terminal service for local businesses. Your founding office gradually grows into an internet provider. Connection Empire is a 2D business simulation about connections, customers and the development of the German internet.

Choose where your story begins

Select your headquarters directly on the map. A founding dossier guides you through your company name, owner, office preparation and starting budget. Real OpenStreetMap data provides streets, buildings and mapped addresses. Germany is the first playable country; available map data varies by location.

Build a network your customers can rely on

Connect buildings, place distribution cabinets and plan connections along streets. Every connection uses capacity. Expansion, operation and repairs all cost money. In the early era, connection lines represent leased lines and installation work; later technology takes you through ISDN, DSL and fibre.

At first, you are customer support too

Accept orders, assess connection requirements, organise installation and look after your customers. Early enquiries arrive by telephone, letter and personal contact. Communication channels develop as the game calendar advances.

A good tariff is only the beginning

Price, speed and reliability affect acquisition and satisfaction. Close the month, compare income with operating costs and decide where to invest next. Fictional providers enter the market as the campaign progresses; former provider brands have their own era too.

Discover internet history

Selected historical cards accompany the years from 1983, covering videotex, early research networks, market liberalisation and broadband. Reopen the chronicle whenever you like or turn automatic historical cards off for your game.

Features

  • 2D business simulation with headquarters chosen directly on the map
  • Streets, buildings and mapped addresses based on OpenStreetMap
  • Network expansion, building connections, capacity, maintenance and outages
  • Tariff choices, customer development and monthly financial settlements
  • Manual customer service as your business begins
  • A calendar, technology upgrades and historical snapshots
  • 26 fictional competitors and former provider lines
  • Single-player; interface and text in German and English

Simulation note

Connection Empire combines real present-day map data with a simplified economy and historical background texts. Mapped buildings and addresses are not a complete record of every real connection. Costs and founding procedures are game values. An internet connection is required to load additional map areas.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used to create store artwork and portions of in-game text, customer support dialogue, and German/English localization during development. Development also used AI-assisted programming. The current build does not generate content during gameplay or connect to an external AI service.
