What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“GRAVE SHIFT combines survival-horror tension with roguelite replayability. Getting that balance right means learning from real playthroughs: how players manage limited resources, approach encounters, and build their characters across repeated runs. Early Access gives us the opportunity to gather that feedback while expanding the game and refining its combat, progression, puzzles, and atmosphere.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect GRAVE SHIFT to remain in Early Access for approximately one year. This is an estimate rather than a fixed release date, and it may change based on development progress, playtesting, and community feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the game’s playable content and story, introduce 2 additional biomes (this early access release ships with 2 fully playable biomes), introduce 4 additional boons (we are shipping with ten boons in this early access release), more build options, and develop a more dynamic soundtrack. We also intend to improve combat balance, progression, performance, and overall polish. The exact scope and priorities may evolve as development continues and we learn from player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes two playable biomes: the Old Cemetery, and the Town, representing roughly half of our currently planned content. It also ships with 10 types of boons, and we plan to ship with at least 14. Players can explore procedurally generated runs, fight enemies and bosses, solve puzzles, experiment with weapons and boons, and unlock permanent upgrades alongside story progression in the hub. We estimate that this early access version of the game contains roughly 5 to 10 hours of gameplay depending on a player's engagement with side content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't intend to increase the price. We intend to release this early access version as a completely free game, and intend to keep GRAVE SHIFT as a completely free game when it's out of early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use Steam Discussions to gather feedback, bug reports, and suggestions, and to share development updates and patch notes through Steam announcements. We’re particularly interested in players’ experiences with difficulty, resource availability, weapon and boon balance, puzzle clarity, and performance. That feedback will help us identify problems and prioritize improvements while staying true to the game’s survival-horror direction.”

About This Game

Survival horror. Different every run.

GRAVE SHIFT is an isometric survival-horror roguelike. You are the Keeper, called to a town where the dead outnumber the living.

Make every shot count

Ammo is scarce. Reloads take time. Search for supplies, manage the limited space in your coat and keep an escape route in mind. Take careful aim, fight at close quarters or break away before the dead surround you.

Choose your route. Change your build.

Branching paths, procedurally generated rooms and changing rewards make each run different. Explore the Cemetery and Town, search houses and sprawling mansions, and find the keys and puzzle components that open a way forward.

Shape your run with supernatural boons. Set enemies ablaze, spread poison, turn your flashlight into a weapon or call on spirits and creatures from the deep. Combine powers and upgrades to find a build that keeps you alive.

Survive the hunt

Relentless Tyrants pursue you while you search for a way forward. You can stagger them, but you cannot kill them. Break their line of sight, keep moving, and solve the puzzles standing between you and escape.

Die. Upgrade. Return.

Death ends your run, not all of your progress. Keep the upgrade materials you have earned, improve your weapons and abilities at the hilltop hub, and set out again. Between runs, get to know Marrow Run's survivors and uncover the story behind the missing night shift.

Unravel the Mystery

The night shift went into the mines beneath the town of Marrow Run, and it never came back. Then, the ground split open, and the dead began to rise.
