Dig a hole. Get rich. Open crates. Dig a deeper hole.

You and up to five friends just bought an old field. A mining company dug here in 1911, hunting for a treasure called the Motherlode. Then it went broke and vanished. Now it's your turn, and it's a long way down.

Pick your digger (Farmer, Miner, Granny, Cowboy, Explorer or Mole) and start with your bare hands. Sell what you find, buy a trowel, then a spade, and the hole starts to sink.

Every swing pays

• Crack, crack, CHUNK. Every tool loosens the ground its own way - a lump of sod lifts, a plate of rock splits, a block shudders, a drill spits out a core, a glowing cut traces the stone. Then the chunk breaks out and the dirt flies.
  
• Every layer feels different: sticky clay, rolling gravel, coal dust, glinting crystal, embers and frost.
  
• Dig any shape you like: a narrow hole straight down works fine.
  
• Junk and coins fly into your bag. Rare finds glow through the dirt, so dig them out and grab them.
  
• Bag full? Ride the winch up, pour your haul on the Sell Scale and hear the ka-ching.

Always something to buy

• Dozens of tools, one for every layer: trowels and spades first, then jackhammers, drills, laser cutters and giant borers that shake and spin in your hands. Every new tool takes a much bigger bite.
  
• A tool digs its own layer, struggles in the next one and can't dig the one after that. There's always a next tool to save up for.
  
• Bigger bags, and faster lifts all the way up to the Mega Lift, a glass capsule that shoots you to the top.
  
• Build Stations deep down to sell, repair and fill up without riding all the way back to camp.
  
• Tools wear out as you dig. The Shopkeeper at the Crew Store fixes them for a bit of Crew Cash.
  
• Hire helpers who dig their own shaft, ride up when their bag is full and sell what they find.
  
• Medkits for when a fight goes badly. Carry a few and heal in a hurry.

Caves full of treasure

Small caves hide along the way, each with a treasure room behind a stone door. Each with puzzles to solve. Some caves open right onto your shaft. Deeper down, others are hidden - dig close and you'll hear a knock. Each chest holds Crew Cash, Tokens or a crate, plus a trophy for the shelf in the Crew Store.

There is another catch. Each cave has a guardian inside it. Wake it and nothing in the cave moves until it goes poof. Watch for the wind-up, step back from the bite, dodge the charge and keep swinging. It drops a pile of loot and a Rare find.

The Crate Machine

Every sale also pays you Tokens, on top of the cash. Spend them at the Crate Machine, right next to the Sell Scale.

• Knives, gloves, hard hats, outfits and tool skins, with new crates the deeper you dig. Every item has its own wear and pattern number. Press F to turn it in your hands and show it off.
  
• Every digger carries a knife: throw it, flip it and bunnyhop with it. Rarer knives do fancier tricks.
  
• Very rare gadgets: a Jetpack (don't let it overheat), a Mini Excavator with room for a friend in the bucket, a Drill Pod, a Dynamite Pack and the Clippers, for snipping a friend's rope on the way up. And some very rare surprises.
  
• The odds are always on screen.

No in-app purchases, ever. Crates are opened only with Tokens you earn by playing.

One crew, one wallet

• Play solo or online with up to 5 friends. Friends can jump into a game that's already going.
  
• All the cash goes into Crew Cash, one wallet the whole crew shares. Tools and Tokens are your own.
  
• Trade with your crew: skins, Dynamite Packs, Tokens, even a tool swap. You both have to accept.
  
• Talk with proximity voice chat. Your voice echoes deep down, carries up an open shaft and fades into the rock.
  
• Tap the middle mouse to ping: "Look here!", "Rare here!", "Critter!" Hold it to shout HELP! Your crew sees it through the dirt.
  
• The Crew Board in the Crew Store keeps your best trips and best finds. Every 30 minutes a shift ends and everyone gets a title: Top Digger, Big Earner, Treasure Hunter, Critter Bonker, Rope Rider or Sleepyhead.
  
• Bonk your friends with a shovel, or snip their rope while they ride up. Nobody gets hurt. Want more chaos? Switch on friendly fire.

Something lives down there

Dig deep enough and critters pop out of the walls. Worms nibble, moles head-butt you, rats run off with your loose finds, beetles charge and bats swoop. Deeper down you'll meet Glow Bats, Stone Toads and Fire Ants. Hit them with whatever you're holding and they go poof, dropping a little loot. Dig into a nest and a whole swarm comes out.

Get knocked out, get back up

Run out of health and you're knocked out. A friend can help you up, or you wake up at the nearest Station or back at camp. Your bag stays where you fell, and only you can pick it up. You never lose your money, Tokens, tools or items. Shout HELP! so your crew can find you, and keep a Medkit handy.

The Motherlode is still down there

Nobody from the old company ever brought it up. It's a long dig, and every layer is darker and stranger than the one before. Something guards it. Bring friends.
