Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Atomic Playground already has a playable laboratory, research progression, guided experiments, voiced guides, and an interactive periodic book. Early Access will help us learn which experiments players want to explore and where the chemistry, performance, and learning tools need the most work. We want feedback on the game people can play today as we develop it further.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately 12 months. This may change as we respond to player feedback and work on chemistry coverage, usability, performance and polish. We will share progress and any changes to this estimate through Steam announcements.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to broaden supported chemistry, add more guided experiments, improve performance, and make explanations and learning tools clearer. These are our development priorities, not guarantees of particular features or quantities. Plans may change as we learn from player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes an orbital laboratory with Free Play and Research, ingredient collections and research goals, molecule inspection, guided demonstrations, Vera and Vex's recorded dialogue with captions, and a searchable Living Book covering all 118 elements and three radiation illustrations. Research progress can be saved; returning to research starts a fresh chamber. Chemistry coverage is incomplete, large experiments can be demanding, and the book can pause briefly on its first opening. The book is a reference and does not make all 118 elements available for chamber reactions. Visual models are simplified for readability.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We may increase the price at full release as the game grows. We'll announce any price change in advance. Early Access owners will receive the base game's full-release update at no additional cost if and when it becomes available.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Steam discussions will be our main place for experiment ideas, bug reports, and feedback on chemistry and usability. Players can also use our support email. We will use Steam announcements to share updates, explain changes, and describe what we are working on. Feedback will inform priorities; we cannot promise that every suggestion will be implemented.”

About This Game

A little experiment. A new question.

Welcome to your orbital laboratory. Add ingredients to the chamber, change the temperature, and look closely at what happens. Atomic Playground is a single-player chemistry sandbox about exploring the small things that make up our world.

Mix, observe, and try again

Explore supported substances and reactions in Free Play, or follow guided demonstrations that make a particular change easier to see. Freeze and heat water, investigate molecular transformations, and use the chamber controls to pause and inspect the action.

Get closer to the molecules

Use the microscope to take a closer look at molecular structures. Change your viewpoint and follow the details that are easy to miss when an experiment is in motion.

Turn discoveries into new possibilities

In Research, observations earn research credits that unlock ingredient collections. Work through research goals and save your research progress, then return with another question to investigate. Free Play is available for open experimentation.

Meet Vera and Vex

Your two voiced guides bring conversation, curiosity, and a little disagreement to the lab. Read along with captions as they introduce ideas and accompany supported experiments.

Open the Living Book

Explore a reference for all 118 elements, with searchable entries, isotope information, interactive orbital illustrations, and voiced explanations. Rotate the models, select orbital clouds, and explore three radiation illustrations. The book is available from the menu and during play, independently of research unlocks.

A laboratory with a view

Take a moment between experiments to enjoy the observatory, the sun outside your window, and the sound of a working laboratory.

Growing through Early Access

The current game combines a playable laboratory, research progression, guided experiments, and the Living Book. We plan to expand supported chemistry and guided experiments, improve performance, and make the learning tools clearer with player feedback. Chemistry coverage is still developing. The chamber and book use simplified visual models; the 118-element reference does not mean every element or reaction is supported in the chamber. Guided demonstrations and open experimentation serve different purposes, and results are not a substitute for professional chemical calculations or real laboratory guidance.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used during development to create pre-generated character voices and assist with written content and promotional artwork. Character dialogue is stored as recorded audio with authored captions. The game does not require a live generative AI service to play.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 5300G
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics integrated in Ryzen 3 5300G
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 5 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: Keyboard and mouse required. For large or densely populated experiments, use Low graphics and turn anti-aliasing off. Frame rate depends on experiment complexity.
