About This Game

Thank you, OpenOMF

This remake stands on the shoulders of OpenOMF, and we want to say that as loudly as we can.

Since 2013, the OpenOMF team has reverse-engineered One Must Fall 2097 and rebuilt it as free, open-source software, so the community could keep playing the game it loves on modern computers. Every fight in this remake runs on their code. The moves, the damage, the timing and the computer opponent all come straight from OpenOMF, the menus around the fight are ported from their work, and our online play's rollback netcode follows their design. We built the 3D on top. They built the game underneath it.

Thank you to everyone who has ever contributed to OpenOMF, especially katajakasa, Vagabond, Nopey, mrannanj, animehunter and LegendaryBlueShirt, and to every developer, tester and bug reporter who put in the hours. And thank you to the whole One Must Fall community: the fans who kept fighting, modding, sharing and talking about this game for more than thirty years. You are the reason it is still here, and this remake is a love letter to you.

If you love this game, go say hi to them, and play OpenOMF too. It's free on Windows, Mac, Linux and more:

More thanks

Thank you to Diversions Entertainment for creating One Must Fall 2097, and for releasing it as freeware in 1999, which is what makes a free remake like this possible. Thank you to Kenny Chow, whose original soundtrack you hear in every fight. And thank you to Epic Games for Unreal Engine.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The remake's 3D robots, arenas and animation were produced with AI-assisted generation tools (image-to-3D and image generation) from the original game's designs, then authored, repaired and reviewed by hand in Blender and Unreal. The menu art shown in HD is AI-remastered from the original game's pictures, and the store page artwork was AI-generated from renders of our in-game robots. All AI content is pre-made during development; nothing is generated while you play. The music and sound effects are the original recordings, remastered without AI.
