You were pulled into someone else's war. Type what you want to say and people answer it. Errands, places, allies and even your abilities are written out of what you do. Slay the Demon King, serve him, turn him or make peace, and the world remembers how.

About This Game

The world is written before you take your first step in it

Every run opens by writing its own world: the age, how magic works, the peoples and what they want, what the Demon King actually is and where he stands right now — then who you were on Earth, how you got here, and the ability you woke up with. Tell it what kind of world you want, or leave it to chance.

The world is built out of what you do in it

  • You mention a place nobody has been. If it is close enough to walk to, it gets built, and you can go there.
  • You take someone's errand. A destination is written for it and placed on the map. The world is larger because you agreed to something.
  • You argue about the price. Talk a keeper down and the bed costs less. What you agree is what you are charged.
  • You ask someone to come with you. They decide. Someone who does not like you enough will say no.
  • You talk down something trying to kill you. A person, an animal, a monster, the boss of the dungeon: anyone you fight can be talked onto your side. Not all of them forget whose side they were on.
  • You play the way you play. New abilities are written against your build, and the ending is written out of the run you actually had.

Say the thing, not the option

Lie, threaten, over-promise, confess — you type it. The reply is written for what you actually said, and what you said is what the world then has to deal with.

You can walk into a fight you cannot win

Fights run on hand-written rules, not on the AI: turn order, initiative, damage and death follow the same rules every time. You can learn this game, and you can misjudge it.

Pick a side, or don't

You are here for a war that isn't yours. Slay the Demon King, serve him, turn him to your side, or make a peace both banners will sign. Each one ends the war differently, and the world carries on after it, changed by what you did. Factions keep count of what you have done for them and what you still owe.

Everyone remembers you

You are not from here, and the war did not start with you. Everyone you meet will remember you — not all of it, and not the same way.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

This game uses AI in two ways.

While you play, AI writes the world: its history, characters, places, quests, dialogue (including replies to what you type), your abilities and the chapters of your Book. This runs on our online service, so an internet connection is required. You can also spend credits to have AI illustrate a chapter of your Book with a picture or a short video cutscene with sound.

Some of the art that ships with the game was made with AI tools during development: the world-map symbols, the prologue backgrounds, several world tilesets, ability and item icons, the game's icon and the store artwork. Character sprites and portraits, music and sound effects are made by human artists.

The AI is instructed never to write sexual content or gratuitous gore, and only names things that exist in the game. In fights, turn order, damage and death are decided by the game's own rules; when you try to talk an enemy down, the AI only rates how good your argument was, and the game decides whether it works. Pictures and video are only made when you ask for them, from a fixed template, and are checked by the provider before you see them. You can report anything from the pause menu.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Turn-based fantasy combat in which people and creatures are killed, drawn in pixel art without blood or gore. The story deals with war, death, cruelty and crime, and inns and taverns imply drinking.

Characters, dialogue and story are written live by AI in response to what you type, so wording varies from run to run and may include strong language. The AI is instructed never to write sexual content or gratuitous gore. At New Game you choose who the world is written for (under 13, 13 to 17, or adult), which sets how plainly it is written.
