What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Real-Time Screen Translator is already usable, but screen capture, OCR and local translation can behave differently across games, applications, fonts, resolutions and hardware. Early Access lets us improve reliability, model installation, language compatibility, accessibility and the overlay workflow with feedback from a wider range of Windows users.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately 6 to 12 months. This estimate may change depending on user feedback, compatibility findings and the level of stability reached across supported hardware and languages.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to provide a more polished setup and update flow, more reliable model download and recovery tools, broader localization quality checks, clearer model and language compatibility guidance, improved accessibility and better performance across a wider range of Windows systems. Priorities may change in response to community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Windows build captures a user-selected screen area, reads visible text with OCR and displays translated text in an overlay. Translation runs locally after an optional model download; no external translation-service account or API key is needed. Accuracy and speed vary with the model, font, image quality, resolution and hardware.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to keep the price unchanged when the software leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We collect bug reports, compatibility results and feature feedback through Steam Discussions. Patch notes and development updates are posted on Steam. Reports with the Windows version, hardware, OCR profile, translation model and clear reproduction steps are especially useful.”

About This Software

Translate without pausing your game

Select a screen area. Real-Time Screen Translator reads subtitles and interface text with OCR, then places the translation over the source so you can keep playing.

Local models for up to 100 languages

Choose among four local translation profiles to balance speed, resource use and natural wording. Language coverage depends on the selected model; the broadest local profiles cover up to 100 languages and can run offline after installation.

Pick the local model that fits your machine:

  • Turbo — OPUS-MT · 65–285 MB: Fastest by far, translates a subtitle in a few hundredths of a second. Small download, one language direction at a time.
  • Balanced — M2M100 418M · 488 MB: One package for 100 languages in every direction. Good quality, works on any computer.
  • High quality — M2M100 1.2B · 1.25 GB: Noticeably better sentences, larger download and slower. Needs a mid-range or better computer.
  • Most natural — MADLAD-400 3B · 2.95 GB: The most natural wording, but it is a large model: it uses a lot of memory and processing power and can slow older machines down.

A stable subtitle flow

New lines are processed in order. Speaker names stay with their dialogue, subtitle position remains steady, and a finished line is replaced only when the next translation is ready.

Privacy and compatibility

With local models, OCR and translation stay on your Windows PC. The first model download requires internet; optional cloud providers do too. The app works with text Windows can capture and OCR can read, so speed and compatibility vary by display mode, font, chosen model and hardware.

Key features
  • Translate a selected screen area in place
  • Four local model profiles for speed or quality
  • Up to 100 languages on the broadest profiles
  • Stable subtitle queue with speaker-name grouping
  • Customizable glass overlay, colors, opacity and text size

Make it look the way you want

Background, Speaker name and Translated text each take their own colour, and Opacity and Text size are adjustable. You set the band once and it stays that way.

Useful beyond games

It works with any readable text inside the region you select: application windows, videos, documents and web pages. Results vary with the font, resolution, motion, the model you picked and your PC.

Console and TV workflows

The app does not run directly on a console or television. When console video is displayed on Windows through PS Remote Play or a capture-card preview, select that Windows preview area for OCR and translation. Results depend on preview quality, latency, resolution and capture hardware.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Real-Time Screen Translator uses machine-learning-based OCR and local translation models to read text from a user-selected screen area and show translated text in an overlay. Translation models are downloaded by the user and translation runs on the device. The application does not require an external translation-service account or API key. Some online games or anti-cheat systems may restrict screen capture or overlays; check the relevant game's rules before use.
