About This Game

Arivel is a sandbox about building and adventure in a vast fantasy world. Fell your first tree, carve a home out of stone, raise a castle that stands on real supports and grow a workshop into a humming factory. Then set out: trade in walled capitals, take jobs from village notice boards, dig down through glowing caverns towards Hell, or climb past the clouds to the floating islands of Heaven. Go alone or bring up to three friends.

Every world is a whole continent made from its own seed — and it has three levels. Pick a direction and go.

  • The surface — 25 biomes from snowy taiga and golden steppes to canyons, misty rainforests, maple hills and sakura groves. Mountain ranges two kilometres high, rivers, lakes and seas with tides that follow the moon.

  • Down to Hell — caves open in cliffs and lead to vast halls, hidden lakes and rivers of lava. Dig deeper and the stone darkens, the air grows hot, smouldering crust appears — and at the very bottom lies Hell, with lava seas under a red vault.

  • Up to Heaven — climb above the clouds through the windy Cloud Belt and the shimmering Aether Belt to the floating islands of Heaven, with golden light and waterfalls pouring into the void.

  • Bosses worth the trip — an ancient grove guardian, a colossus in desert ruins, a lord of ash in a volcano's caldera and more. They are optional: beat them for unique rewards and a trophy for your hall.

  • Fair danger — monsters come out at night and in the dark, but every attack is telegraphed, enemies never break your builds, and if you fall, your things wait in a grave with no timer.

Building is the heart of Arivel. Every block can be placed, shaped, carved, brought down and turned into something new.

  • Carve inside the block — every block is a 16×16×16 grid of tiny cubes. Chisel window frames, columns, statues and ornaments, then save them as templates and reuse them anywhere.

  • Castles on real supports — houses, bridges and towers stand as long as they rest on something. Knock out the last pillar and the span comes down; a statue that leans too far topples over.

  • Fell a tree with your own hands — every swing of the axe bites a notch where it lands, and the trunk tips over and crashes away from you.

  • Shape your builds — logs, planks, bricks, glass and dozens of materials; slabs, steps and slopes for roofs and stairways.

  • Make it a home — tables, chairs, benches, shelves, chests and beds in seven kinds of wood. Sit by the fire, store your loot, sleep through the night.

  • Creative mode — unlimited blocks and flight when you just want to build the castle you have in your head.

Survival starts with an empty stomach. Your land is what keeps you going.

  • Ten crops — wheat, corn, rice, flax, pumpkins, watermelons, carrots, chili, tea and blueberries. Mow wild meadows with a scythe to find the seeds of each biome.

  • Water is everything — fields by a river or after the rain grow faster. A dry field never dies; it simply waits for you.

  • Herds of your own — lure pigs, cows and sheep with their food, breed them, shear wool and keep a pasture by the house.

  • Cook and eat well — hunger and health drive survival; a good meal from your own farm keeps you on the road longer.

  • Sleep it off — lie down at night and wake up at dawn to a field that has grown while you slept.

Start with a stone axe and a workbench. Finish with a factory.

  • Climb the tiers — wood, stone, copper, iron and steel, then rare ores from the deep, from Hell and from the sky islands. Every step unlocks new tools, blocks and machines.

  • Crafting without the wiki — the built-in recipe book shows how to make anything and what you are still missing.

  • Harness power — water mills, wind turbines, solar panels and generators, wired up with cables and batteries.

  • Build production lines — drill rigs, crushers, furnaces, presses and assemblers linked by conveyors, sorters and pipes. The most advanced materials can only come out of a factory.

  • Lay down rails — electric locomotives haul freight wagons between your mines, farms and factories.

  • Follow the engineer's journal — it walks you from your first generator to a full factory, one goal at a time.

You are not alone out there. Follow a road and it will lead you to people.

  • Settlements of every size — a lonely farmstead, a village by the river, a market town, or a walled capital with a castle, a cathedral and hundreds of homes. Each is built from the local wood and stone, so no two regions look alike.

  • A life of their own — smiths hammer at the forge, farmers harvest real fields, guards patrol with torches at night, and the king holds court in the throne room.

  • Notice boards — hunt monsters near the mill, deliver iron to the smith, build a bridge across the creek, find ruins in the north. Every settlement has work and coin to pay for it.

  • Trade and reputation — buy, sell and earn the trust of villages and kingdoms. Become an honoured guest and the king himself will place orders with you.

Co-op for up to 4 players. Host your world and invite friends: raise a village together, split the farm and the factory, take on notice-board jobs as a party and face the bosses side by side. Every player gets their own reward.
