What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“After Troy is already a full game. You can play it from the first turn to the last city. I want people playing it now, and I want to grow it with them: what's fun, what isn't, and what to build next. I update fast, so expect changes often.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Around six months. It may run a little longer: I'd like an illustrator to make new human card art, and good art takes time.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full release is planned to add:
- A competitive mode, where players race each other for the cities
- Controller support
- A puzzle mode with hand-made scenarios
- Mod support for your own cards, heroes and maps
- New card art from an illustrator
- Balance and polish from player feedback

Plans can change along the way. The roadmap on the store page shows the order.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is complete and stable. You can play full games from start to finish:
- Four heroes, each with a patron god
- Over 100 cards, 22 Companions and over 30 enemies
- Solo and co-op conquest, plus shorter missions
- Online co-op with friends over Steam, hot-seat for up to four on one PC, and bots for any seat
- Twelve Labours, Ironman, Steam leaderboards and a weekly seed
- 13 languages
- A tutorial inside your first game

Expect balance changes and the odd bug.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price will go up at full release. Early Access is the cheapest way in.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Play it, and tell me in the Steam discussions what's fun and what isn't. Balance comes first: if something feels too strong or no fun, I want to hear it. I won't build every idea exactly as suggested, but every "this isn't fun" gets looked at and fixed in a way that fits the game.”

About This Game

After Troy is a deckbuilding RPG and a true roguelike, set in Greek myth just after the fall of Troy.

Pick one of four heroes and step onto an unexplored map. You have six rounds to explore it, grow strong and take its cities. Play alone, or bring up to three friends.

Your hand does everything

Your cards are how you walk, pay, fight and defend. Spend a Favour from Olympus to play a card at full power. Short by one? Turn any card sideways for 1 Move, Coin, Attack or Block.

A true roguelike

Each game deals a new map from shuffled tiles. Camps, ruins, monster lairs and walled cities turn up in new places every time, and you uncover them one tile at a time.

Nothing carries over between games. There are no unlocks that make you stronger and no +5% damage to grind for. Every hero starts every game with the same small deck. Only the challenge grows: win with a hero to unlock the next of twelve Labours, each one making the game harder. Turn on Ironman and you get one save and no reloading. Then compare your skill with everyone else on the leaderboards.

Grow stronger

Build your deck with new Feats and Spells from the Market. Every enemy you defeat gives EXP, and every level brings new skills. Hire Companions who fight beside you, and find Relics in ruins and chests. Or burn a temple for its Relic, and Zeus' Law turns against you.

Four heroes, four gods

  • Odysseus, Athena's favourite. A leader first. He wins through his Companions and the people who follow him.
  • Medea, sworn to Hades. Burned a palace and never looked back. Getting hurt does not slow her down.
  • Atalanta, raised by a bear, blessed by Demeter. At home in the wild and close to the gods. When Olympus gives her a bad Favour, she asks again.
  • Aeneas, Poseidon's own. Carried his father out of the fire. His defence becomes his attack.

The gods are watching

Four gods each fill a meter as you play: Hermes when you explore, Ares when you fight, Hestia when you hire, heal and trade, Athena when you play cards at full power. Spend a full meter on that god's gift.

Play together

Invite up to three friends over Steam and take the cities as one team. Or pass the mouse around one PC in hot-seat. Any empty seat can be filled by a bot.

Leaderboards and a weekly seed

Every mission has its own Steam leaderboard, with a separate board for Ironman runs and a view of your friends' scores. Each week there is one new seed, and everyone plays the same map. Plus over 70 achievements to chase.

Early Access

The whole game is playable today: four heroes, every mission, online co-op and all twelve Labours. Still to come, in this order. No dates yet.

  • Puzzle mode. Hand-made scenarios. You are dropped into a turn and have to find the way through.
  • Mod support. Make your own cards, heroes, enemies and maps.
  • Full release. Everything above, finished.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The card illustrations were made with an AI image tool from our own low-poly style references, then reviewed and placed by hand. All other art, the map, characters, interface, voices and writing were made by people. Store art and screenshots are captured from the game itself. I'm hoping I can replace the card art by proper human art before full release.
