About This Game

The tote board is up. Post time is close. Get your bet down.

Longshot Downs is a broadcast-style horse racing sim built around one thing: the feeling of watching a real simulcast betting parlor, not a menu with horses attached. Odds drift live on the board. Multiple tracks run their own independent post-time countdowns at once. Miss the window and the race goes off without you — exactly like the real thing.

Live multi-track simulcast

Nine original tracks, each with its own layout, lighting, and mood — from tight bullring sprints to sweeping mile-and-a-quarter ovals, dirt and turf both. Watch one track full-screen or run up to four side by side, switching your attention (and your audio focus) wherever the action is.

Bet like it's the real thing

Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Quinella, Trifecta, Superfecta, and Daily Double — eight bet types with real pari-mutuel payout math. Odds drift in the minutes before post as the "betting public" moves money, including the occasional late-money plunge on a horse nobody saw coming. A live tote board, a full odds board with jockey and form data, and a $1,000 mutuel payoff board after every race keep the broadcast feel honest all the way through.

Track Parlay — the bet that doesn't exist

Every other wager in the game is honest pari-mutuel math. This one is not. Pick a WIN horse at two to five DIFFERENT venues, all running at roughly the same time, all riding on one ticket. Every single leg has to come in.

Exacta, Quinella, Trifecta and Superfecta all quietly shrink their combined payout to keep a multi-pick bet from getting out of hand. Track Parlay does the exact opposite: every leg's odds multiply together with no dampening at all, and then a bonus multiplier stacks on top that grows with every leg you add — up to 2.5x on a full five-leg ticket. Stakes run from $1,000 to $100,000. Hit a five-leg card with a couple of longshots on it and the payout stops looking like a number.

You have until each venue's post time to get your leg in. Miss the cutoff and the ticket voids and gives the stake back rather than taking your money — you lose the moment, not the bankroll. Nothing at a real track works like this. That's the point.

Seventy-two horses, zero of them normal

Build a bankroll backing Deez Nuts, Hoof Hearted, or Sir Poops-a-Lot — a full seventy-two-horse roster with named jockeys, real form lines, and names that range from classic to completely unhinged. No two races feel the same: dynamic lane changes, mid-race surges, and a genuine shot at a photo finish every time.

Own, train, and race your own horse

Career mode is its own game inside the game: pick a starter horse, then buy more from a marketplace of pedigree tiers — from a modest Local-Bred prospect to a Blue-Blood Sire Line champion. Earn Training XP by racing and spend it across 10 trainable stats — 15 levels each — grouped under Acceleration, Stamina, and Closing Kick, hire a trainer for automatic daily gains (including a legendary Elite trainer worth saving up for), and climb your own horse's class ladder from Maiden Special Weight all the way to Grade 1 Stakes for bigger and bigger purses. Beat the same rival horse twice and it becomes your nemesis — forced back into your next race for a real grudge match, not just another random field. Run up to 4 completely independent careers in their own save slots, and chase 27 career-specific milestones on top of it all.

Climb the wild-field ranks too

Every wild-field bet also feeds a separate class ladder — Maiden through Grade 1 again, this time gating a purse-bonus multiplier on top of whatever you win — plus a full stats page tracking your winningest horses, your best streak, and your worst nights. Race day conditions change too: dirt or turf, fast or sloppy, each with a real effect on how the field runs. 54 Steam achievements total and two leaderboards (peak bankroll, longest win streak) for anyone who wants to chase a number.

Built for a controller

Full gamepad support, PlayStation and Xbox glyphs, rumble on the big moments. Settings for track theme, screen layout, and audio, all navigable without ever touching a mouse.

No real money changes hands here. Every bet uses simulated in-game currency only — nothing can be bought, wagered, or withdrawn for real money, ever.

The track announcer and color commentator voices, including the horse-name calls, use AI text-to-speech voices (ElevenLabs), pre-generated during development and built into the game - no AI voice generation happens while you play. All game design, race simulation, wagering math, career systems, UI, code, and the horse and track roster were built by the developer.
