Keep a handful of strangers alive in a boarded-up house at the end of the world. Hand out the day's work, send people out for food and fuel, and hold the door when night falls. Every choice costs someone something, and the car only has three seats.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Deadlight is playable from the first night to the last, but it isn't finished yet. We want to spend more time on balance, so that every job, every event and every way out feels fair and tense, and we want to keep adding content for you to enjoy: new events, new places to scavenge, new survivors and new ways a run can go. Early Access lets us do that together with players instead of guessing on our own.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Deadlight to stay in Early Access for about six months. If the game needs more balancing or more content before it's ready, we will take the extra time rather than rush the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have more events and hard choices, more places on the neighborhood map, more survivors with their own jobs and quirks, extra upgrades for the house, and a careful balance pass across both run lengths and all six endings.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The whole game is already there. Draft a party, run the house through morning, afternoon and night, scavenge ten places, face more than 170 events and reach one of six endings. You get short and long runs, 23 achievements, Steam Cloud saves, full controller support and ten languages. Expect numbers to shift as we balance, and the odd rough edge.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may go up a little when the full version comes out. Everyone who buys during Early Access gets every update and the full release at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Tell us what feels too easy, too hard or unfair, which events you want more of, and where things break. We read the Steam discussions and reviews and use them to decide what to balance and build next. Every bigger update comes with patch notes that explain what changed and why.”

About This Game

The house is all you have

Deadlight is a survival management game about a small group of strangers holed up in a suburban house after the dead took the city. Each day has a morning, an afternoon and a night. You decide who cooks, who stands watch, who nails boards over the windows and who walks out the front door to look for supplies. Then the sun goes down and you find out if it was enough.

People, not units

Every survivor has a job from their old life, a few quirks and an opinion about everyone else in the house. They get hungry, thirsty, tired, sick and scared. Push someone too hard and they may break. Put two people who can't stand each other on the same shift and you will hear about it. Open the door to a stranger and you might gain a doctor. Or a problem.

What you'll be doing

  • Hand out shifts across three phases a day: stand watch, rest, cook, fortify, scavenge, heal, repair the vehicle or head out on an expedition
  • Scout ten places on the neighborhood map, from the corner store to the county hospital, each with its own risk and loot
  • Read the raid forecast and decide whether tonight's defense will hold
  • Make hard calls in more than 170 events, many of them with lasting consequences
  • Chase each survivor's personal goals alongside the main objective
  • Build up the house: rain catcher, garden, watchtower and more

Six ways out

Fix the old car and drive out, flag down a helicopter, reach a bunker, join a convoy, turn the house into a fortress, or answer a radio broadcast. Most routes don't have room for everyone. Choosing who goes is part of the game.

Every run is a story

A run lasts about three weeks of in-game time, or twice that on a long run. When it ends, the Ledger remembers it: who made it, who didn't, and how they died. Earn perks that carry into your next attempt.

Built for PC and Steam Deck

  • A wide command board: your survivors, the house and your objectives on one screen
  • Full keyboard shortcuts and full controller support, with button prompts that follow whatever you're holding
  • Adjustable interface size, fullscreen and a reduce-motion option
  • 23 Steam achievements and Steam Cloud saves
  • Playable in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Arabic
  • One purchase. No ads, no microtransactions

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some of Deadlight's artwork was created with the help of generative AI. This includes the key art, the store and library capsules, and the ten location paintings on the expedition screen. The images were generated with a locally run image model, then chosen, cleaned up and colour-graded by hand. The store page text and its translations were drafted with AI assistance and edited by the developer. No content is generated by AI while you play.
