Race, ram and wreck your way across sixteen Malaysian cities after dark. You owe Along, the loan shark. Beat his seven drivers for their pink slips, cause million-ringgit pile-ups and burn nitro all the way to the summit of Kinabalu, where he waits.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“King of Highways is playable from Kuala Lumpur to Kinabalu today, and a racing game is only as good as how it feels in players' hands. We want you racing it now and telling us which chapters are the most fun, which takedowns feel unfair and which cars need tuning, while we polish the Finale and bring the game to more languages and devices. Early Access lets us shape the game with the people who play it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect King of Highways to be in Early Access for about six to nine months, depending on what we learn from players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to:
- finish the Finale on the Kinabalu Summit Road with more of Along's own set pieces;
- add a full Bahasa Malaysia version: the menus and HUD as well as the story, and voices where we can;
- tune rivals, traffic, handling and the pile-ups from your feedback;
- add a Steam Deck graphics preset and more controller polish;
- add more leaderboards and achievements, and more songs on BOLT FM.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The whole road trip is playable, start to finish: all 16 chapters from Kuala Lumpur to Kinabalu plus two bonus races, Midnight Belum and the Sepang Circuit; five event types (Race, Amuk, Pile-Up, Sprint and the Finale); King Mode, one story with seven rival duels, their epilogues and your own win and lose endings; Arcade, with every driver you've beaten; the voiced story in English, with the story text also in Bahasa Malaysia; BOLT FM; Steam achievements; and a leaderboard for every chapter. Expect rough edges in balance and some bugs, which is where your feedback comes in.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't plan to change the price when the game leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Steam discussions and reviews, and the leaderboards: they show us which chapters are too easy or too hard. Every update will come with patch notes as a Steam event, and we plan to ask players which chapter, car or feature they want next.”

About This Game

One debt. Seven rivals.

Once every monsoon, the lights in sixteen cities go out for one second, and your phone rings. You owe Along. Win THE BOLT, a race from Kuala Lumpur to the foot of Kinabalu, and your debt is cleared. Lose, and Along owns you. All you have left is a yellow Panda Kingz.

Take their pink slips

Seven drivers owe Along too, and each one waits for you on their own roads: a courier racing to buy back his father's workshop, a tycoon out on bail, a fisherman's daughter, a Sabah rally driver on one good knee, a framed ex-cop, an engine builder who swore he'd never race again, and a Sarawak timber hauler who wants Along's mask. Beat them and their marker is yours: their car, their story, and what happens to their wish.

Race dangerously

  • Takedowns. Slam rivals into walls, traffic and off the road. Crashed? Impact Time slows everything down. Steer your wreck into a rival and take them with you.

  • Earn your nitro. Near misses, oncoming traffic, drifts and air fill the meter. Chain them together to multiply your score.

  • PILE-UP. Launch into a live junction and cause as much damage as you can. Steer your wreck in the air, fly through the multiplier rings and set off PETIR.

Malaysia, end to end

Bukit Bintang's neon, the Federal Highway, Melaka's Red Square, the Penang Bridge in a storm, the paddy of Perlis, Ipoh's limestone, the Kuching waterfront and the summit road of Kinabalu. Real landmarks, shophouse rows, overhead signs pointing to real towns, and traffic on Malaysian plates.

After dark

Every race starts after seven. Race the golden hour down the Federal Highway, the blue hour over the Penang Bridge and the neon night of Bukit Bintang. Shop fronts glow under the five-foot ways, lanterns hang across the street, the rain-wet road catches every lamp, and behind the shophouses the towers light up floor by floor.
