What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“HearthMoon is built around one idea: a village feels alive when its people can really talk with you, remember you and live lives of their own. That idea runs through every system (conversation, memory, trade, crime, building and survival), and the only way to tune hundreds of unscripted conversations is to hear them in real play. Early Access lets us shape the villagers, the world and the main story together with players, instead of guessing in private.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect HearthMoon to stay in Early Access for about 6–12 months. The biggest milestones are the main story, conversation-driven quests, and making the local AI run reliably on a wide range of PCs. Player feedback may change that estimate; if it does, we will say so in our development updates.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to include the complete main story: a mystery told through the villagers themselves, where the trust you earn decides what you learn and how it ends. We also plan conversation-driven quests that grow from what villagers need and what you say to them; deeper conversation, persuasion and memory; selling to merchants at prices shaped by your relationship; more dangerous and intelligent enemies; reworked Warrior battle arts and new spells; more life in the catacombs, the market, the tavern and the houses; new tricks for your dragon; and work on performance, presentation and accessibility. These are goals, not guarantees, and their scope and order may change with testing and feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build is a playable single-player village and wilderness. You can talk to any villager by voice or text, trade at a 12-stall market whose merchants keep their own hours, eat and play poker at the tavern, build on land you own, fish, farm, mine, cook and craft, and live with the consequences of crime. You can tame a baby dragon that obeys spoken commands, grow as a Warrior, Ranger or Mage, and face the cemetery's undead, the catacombs and the Dragon Knight, and the werewolf on blood-moon nights. The main story and conversation-driven quests are not in the game yet. Expect bugs, uneven performance, unfinished visuals, and AI replies that are sometimes slow or odd. Saves may not carry over between major updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may rise at full release, as the main story and other content arrive. We will announce any price change before it takes effect.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Steam Discussions and regular development updates will be our main channels. The most useful reports include the steps to reproduce a bug, your PC specifications and performance, and examples of conversations that worked or went wrong. We will share what we are working on and explain the changes we make. Player feedback will directly shape our priorities, though we cannot promise to build every suggestion.”

About This Game

A village that talks back

HearthMoon is a single-player dark-fantasy survival RPG set in a living medieval village. Everyone here has a name, a home, a trade and a past, and you can talk to any of them. Build a life worth protecting, then hold on to it when the blood moon rises.

Talk to anyone. They remember.

Speak aloud or simply type. Villagers turn when they hear their name, answer in their own voices, and remember what you told them, what you did and what they saw you do. Each knows different things about the village, so who you ask matters. Earn their trust and they open up. Break it, and they will not forget.

A market that keeps its hours

Twelve market stalls, each with its own merchant: butcher, baker, fishmonger and more. They open in the morning, talk you through their wares, then pack up and walk home at dusk. At the tavern, order a hot meal, listen to the regulars or sit down at the poker table to play for in-game gold.

Make a life between the nights

Buy a lot in the village or claim open land beyond it, and raise a house piece by piece, from foundations to roof. Fish the rivers, the lake and the sea: cast, wait for the bite and fight every catch against the line. Grow crops, gather, mine, cook and craft, and keep hunger and thirst at bay.

A dragon of your own

Win over a wild baby dragon with patience and raw meat. It grows stronger at your side, wears a collar engraved with the name you choose, sleeps in the bed you build for it, and answers your voice: follow, stay, attack, fetch, even words you teach it. It replies with actions, not words.

Find your way to fight

Grow as a Warrior, Ranger or Mage, learning battle arts and spells from village trainers and tomes found in the dark. The village keeps its own justice: harm someone, and every witness remembers. Beneath the village, three floors of catacombs lead to the Dragon Knight's hall. He remembers you.

When the moon bleeds

At dusk the dead claw their way out of their graves and guard the cemetery until morning. On blood-moon nights a giant werewolf comes down from the mountains, tears through the streets and sets the rooftops ablaze. At dawn the fallen rise in the cemetery and walk home, and the village begins to rebuild.

Every village has its secrets

The beast comes from the mountains every blood moon… or does it? Someone in the village is hiding a secret, and only by earning the trust of its people will you uncover the truth. The main story is in development for a future Early Access update.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

HearthMoon uses AI to generate NPC dialogue during gameplay and synthesize NPC voices. Spoken input is transcribed so villagers and the dragon companion can respond to the player. AI-assisted artwork and writing are also used in development and in store-page marketing. Conversations are experimental and responses may be inconsistent.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Fantasy combat with weapons and magic, killing, undead enemies and frightening nighttime encounters. A giant werewolf attacks the town, damaging buildings and causing fires. The tavern includes alcohol consumption and a simulated poker game.
