What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The team was dedicated to releasing a spooky game by Halloween, and quality is important to us. While we had wanted to deliver the full experience by then, the second encounter needed a little more time to achieve the level of polish we felt confident in releasing. Please enjoy the first level while the team continues to cook! ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The full game is slated for release 2 weeks after early access launch, on November 13th.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are aiming to have the full release of Trick nor Treat contain a new level with a new entity to identify! In addition, we plan to add some quality of life updates with the full release. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the Early Access version, players will experience a fully completed investigation level. Explore the forest, survive the hunt, and solve the mystery to escape. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Trick nor Treat will continue to be Free to Play. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We welcome players to share their feedback, suggestions, and bug reports through our Steam Community Hub Discussions and Steam reviews, which will serve as our primary channels for community feedback throughout Early Access. The development team will regularly review and engage with community feedback to identify common issues, prioritize bug fixes, and guide improvements. Your suggestions and experiences will help us evaluate potential changes to existing features and shape future content as we work toward the full release. ”

About This Game

Halloween was supposed to be about getting candy. You picked the wrong house.

In Trick Nor Treat, you play as a kid whose Halloween night takes a terrifying turn after entering a strange, run-down house. A trapdoor sends you into a mysterious world connected by a hallway of locked doors. Behind each door waits a new environment—and something from folklore waiting in the darkness.

Trick Nor Treat combines survival horror with educational exploration, introducing players to folkloric creatures, legends, and history from cultures around the world. As you explore each environment, the knowledge you uncover isn't just background information—it's an important part of surviving and progressing through the game.

To escape, you'll need more than courage. Explore each area, uncover clues, learn about the history and legends surrounding the supernatural entities you encounter, and survive long enough to determine what is hunting you.

Explore Folklore From Around the World

Each level introduces players to supernatural entities inspired by folklore from different cultures and regions. Through exploration, players can discover the history, legends, characteristics, and cultural stories associated with these creatures while experiencing them within an interactive horror setting.

Information plaques and environmental discoveries provide educational details while also helping you distinguish one possible entity from another. What you learn matters: understanding the folklore behind each creature can help you interpret clues and determine what may be hunting you.

Investigate the Legends

Explore unsettling environments filled with clues and information about ghosts and cryptids drawn from folklore. Pay attention to what you discover. Information plaques act as guides throughout each level, teaching you about the folklore, history, and identifying characteristics of possible supernatural entities.

Use that knowledge alongside environmental clues to narrow down what may be hunting you. Learning isn't separate from the experience—it's part of how you survive.

Your Flashlight Is Your Defense

You're not completely helpless.

Your flashlight can drive back supernatural threats, but its battery won't last forever. Search the environment for replacement batteries and decide carefully when you need the light and when you can risk the darkness.

Run when you need to. Defend yourself when you can. And listen carefully—crying, footsteps, breaking branches, whispers, and other sounds may warn you that you're no longer alone. Sound is deliberately used to build tension before encounters rather than relying entirely on constant jump scares.

Learn. Deduce. Survive.

Reaching the end of a level isn't enough.

You'll need to apply what you've learned about folklore, history, and the supernatural entity you've encountered to identify what has been following you. Choose correctly to unlock more stories and continue your journey toward escape. Make too many mistakes, and whatever has been hunting you gets the final say.
