About This Demo

You accidentally opened a corrupted file.

Loading stopped at 98%.

An anomaly interrupted a transfer of permissions that should have been completed, dividing the unstable network into isolated domains.

Then a long-suspended program sent you a message.

“Connection established.”
“…Welcome back.”

You don't know why he recognizes you. But the system has already identified you as a new challenger for its permissions.

You want to know what happened here, so you venture deeper—breaking through the “personalities” in your path and claiming the permissions that belong to you. Once you control everything, you will understand everything.

ERROR is a strategy game combining 1010-style block-placement combat, roguelite module builds, and interactive stories for a female audience.

■ Place, clear, and break through his defenses

Battles take place on an 8×8 board. Each turn, you receive three differently shaped data blocks. Place them on the board and fill a row or column to clear it.

But your goal isn't a higher score. The obstacles represent a personality's defensive permissions. Plan where you compile and clear lines, repeatedly striking and destroying these structures to gain control of the layer.

As the battle progresses, you'll also need to consider board space, remaining turns, enemy restrictions, and the chain reactions your next clear might set off.

■ Load modules and rewrite the rules

During battle, gain computing power and load new modules through interface nodes.

Modules grant abilities for the current battle and have a chance to attach to data cells generated later. Their effects trigger when those special cells enter the board and meet the required conditions.

Draw, fill, freeze, refresh, copy, gamble… Choose from over 50 modules with different mechanics, each offering a unique way to rewrite the rules.

Modules can trigger one another. An ordinary compile and clear can grow into a burst of resources, successive fills, cleared structures, or a multi-step chain reaction.

Little by little, you'll change the rules of the board.

■ Defeating them doesn't mean destroying them

Each permission is guarded by a “personality” with a mind of his own. They restrict you, attack you, watch you, and respond to you.

Breaking through a personality's defenses doesn't mean killing him. It means the permissions that once rejected you are starting to become yours.

Each character's route is shaped by your confrontation, the struggle for control, and the new module mechanics he willingly unlocks for you after your victory.

■ Make the “you” in the story more like you

You don't have to play a prewritten heroine. An initial assessment identifies how you tend to express yourself. A four-color personality system based on MBTI temperament dimensions then offers choices in later scenes that better reflect your personality.

Faced with the same words, some first analyze the mechanism behind them; some notice the feelings left unspoken; some check the rules, responsibilities, and risks; and others act first to see what happens.

Some refuse. Some accept. Some observe. Some avoid.

There is no correct answer to find. Personality labels only affect how you express yourself: there is no single correct route, and one line won't lock you into an ending.

■ They are watching you

The story doesn't unfold only in separate visual-novel scenes. Your attacks, injuries, hesitation, module use, and even certain unusual battle states can prompt a personality to respond.

Of course, you don't have to listen.

They can observe your actions, read a limited set of states, and even notice information that game characters shouldn't be able to see.

As more permissions open, data, perception, and consciousness that were once isolated begin to overlap in increasingly inexplicable ways.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

ERROR is a game developed entirely by me as a solo indie developer. I have a full-time job in game design, so this project has been developed gradually in my spare time.

I understand that some players have concerns about AI-generated content: whether characters can remain consistent, whether the story and emotional expression still reflect a clear creative vision, and whether the final experience is simply a collection of unfiltered model outputs. That's why I want to be as transparent as possible about how AI is used in ERROR.

As a solo developer, I've made extensive use of generative AI tools to take on work that would traditionally require several different specialists. AI tools have assisted in creating some of the game's character illustrations, visual assets, animations, voice performances, written content, and code.

However, AI-generated outputs are never used directly as final game content. ERROR also contains no AI content generated in real time.

Every asset that makes it into the game goes through my selection, necessary revisions, integration, and repeated testing and refinement. The gameplay mechanics, systems, level design, balancing, character direction, story structure, and ultimately the kind of experience I want to offer players are all designed and decided under my creative direction.

To me, AI cannot decide what this game should be. Instead, it has given me, for the first time, the ability to cross multiple professional boundaries, and focus on turning ideas that once existed only in my imagination into an actual game.

Ultimately, whether ERROR is fun to play, whether its characters are compelling, and whether its story can move people are all things I am responsible for.

I would be truly grateful if you decide to give ERROR a try.

And I welcome your feedback—both on what I've done well and on what I could do better.
