Grow one living tree in the place it really belongs, then let it keep you company. Rain through the night while you study, crickets as you fall asleep, first snow to sit and breathe with. Its music is composed as you listen, and no two trees are ever alike.

Tentang Permainan Ini

A living tree for the room you're in

Tree Simulator grows one tree, branch by branch, in the real place it belongs. A cherry on Kyoto's Philosopher's Path. A sugar maple beside a log cabin in Québec. A giant sequoia already 2,000 years old. Give it a whole screen or a corner of your second monitor, and it becomes the calmest thing in your day.

Made for the hours you need some quiet

To study or work. Run it in a window beside your notes. It keeps living in the background and drops to 30 frames a second when another window has focus, so it stays out of your way. Choose your weather, set the music as sparse or as full as you like, and get back to it.

To fall asleep. Press Rainy and Night together for a rainy night at any hour. It stays that way until you change it. Slide the rain anywhere from silence to a downpour, let the music drift with long quiet rests or switch it off, and press H to hide every panel. Nothing can die while you sleep, because a tree only reaches its end while you're at the controls.

To meditate. Calm view leaves you alone with the tree. After 30 seconds the camera eases home and starts to circle, slowly, while the snow settles or the petals come down. There's no voice telling you how to breathe, no timer and no streak to keep. Just something alive to rest your eyes on.

To stream. Open it borderless in Calm view. The game contains no recordings and no licensed music, which makes it an easy backdrop for a long stream, and chat gets to watch a tree nobody has ever seen before.

Every sound is made as you hear it

There isn't a single audio file in this game. Its music is composed while you listen, and it follows the season, the weather and the place. Its world is synthesised the same way: higurashi at dusk in Kyoto, loons from a Québec lake, a boobook owl over an Australian billabong, and very rarely, a temple bell. So there's no recording to loop, and no loop to start noticing at three in the morning.

A tree that is grown, not modelled

Every branch finds its own way to the light. It flowers, turns, drops its leaves, bends in the wind and carries the marks of its hard winters, so the tree you grow is the only one like it. Let a year pass in fifteen seconds and watch it take shape, or set it to real time, and a Kyoto cherry flowers when Kyoto's cherries do.

Care that you can see

Your tree earns rings as it ages. Spend them on adaptations, more than 30 for each tree, and they show in its crown: more leaves, more branches, more flowers and fruit. The picture above is one cherry, before and after. A tree at its peak is the best thing in this game, and you earn it.

Neglect it and it thins and withers, and the game warns you while there's still time. A tended tree never dies, and no tree dies while you're away. If one does reach its end, plant another, choose a new place, or stay with it a while.

Eight real places

  • An English oak in a meadow in Oxfordshire

  • A Somei-yoshino cherry on the Philosopher's Path, Kyoto

  • A sugar maple by a log cabin in Québec

  • A river red gum beside a billabong on the Murray River

  • An African baobab on the savanna near Tarangire

  • A Montezuma cypress in Santa María del Tule, Oaxaca

  • A bristlecone pine high in California's White Mountains

  • A giant sequoia in the Sierra Nevada

Each has its own climate, calendar and sound. Earn rings to open new places, and find the small things to do in each one: ring a church bell, push a garden swing, light a lantern as night falls.

Make it yours

  • Six speeds of time, from a real year to fifteen seconds

  • Sun, rain, mist, night, snow or storm at your choice, or let the seasons decide

  • Always day, a 24 minute day, or the clock on your own computer

  • Separate sliders for music, ambience and rain

  • Fullscreen, borderless or windowed, with 10 themes and larger text
