A couch co-op brick breaker for two, with an endless climb. Pass the ball between your bars to arm combos, break the ceiling, and ride the ball up into the next level, which is the next generation of Conway's Game of Life. Street to orbit. A bad climb still pays.

About This Game

Two bars. One ball. One couch.

Neonrise is a brick breaker built for two people on one couch. Both bars reach the whole width and share three lives, so you cover for each other, or get in each other's way. Passing the ball between you is the only thing that builds a combo: five passes and it splits into five balls. Unlock the next rungs and ten passes crackle with chain lightning, fifteen blow a hole in the wall, and if you keep passing it turns into a salvo, a firestorm, a life.

The wall is alive.

Every level is a generation of Conway's Game of Life. Clear it and the ceiling dissolves, the camera rides up, and the next generation is waiting. Every fifth floor is a boss, where the bricks keep evolving while you fight them and only the nuclei die for good. On floor 35 the city's AI mayor is waiting for you both.

From the street to the stars.

One continuous neon city climbs past you: shopfronts and noodle stalls, lit windows, drones, zeppelins, ring stations, deep-space haulers, and past floor 40 a capital ship wider than the screen. Gravity pulls hardest on the ground and lets go as you leave the skyline behind, so the ball itself tells you how high you are.

A bad climb still pays.

Cores are earned while you play and spent between runs. Unlock capsules, extend the combo ladder, raise your life cap. Master a capsule over fifty uses and it stops having a weakness. Beat a boss once and you can start from there forever.

Your pad, your name.

Each of you plays a pad of your own: a name, a colour, a finish, a trail for the ball and a sound for the hit. The game keeps up to eight, so whoever sits down next has theirs waiting.

Built to be played.

  • Local co-op with two gamepads, a pad and a keyboard, or two people on one keyboard. Remote Play Together for the friend who moved away.
  • Solo mode with its own leaderboard, for when nobody is on the couch.
  • Fourteen capsules, and two of them you should think twice about catching.
  • HDR on screens that can show it, with its own calibration.
  • Made with the Steam Deck in mind: full controller support and text sized for its screen.
  • Steam Cloud saves, twenty-seven achievements, solo and co-op leaderboards.
  • Twelve languages.
  • Every pixel drawn from primitives and every note synthesised at runtime. No image files, no audio files. A synthwave bed that thickens as you climb.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Every part of this game's concept, design, and features was created by humans. The ideas, the gameplay, the look and feel, and every decision about how it all fits together came from us.

For the programming itself, we use AI coding agents to help us write code. They speed up development and let us focus our time on what matters most: making the game fun to play.
