Demo Season is open

Everyone who plays the demo earns rewards and gifts inside the game.

  • Beat the demo and keep the Dawn Flame — a cursor of your own — and the title "of the First Watch".

  • Just play it and you'll find gifts waiting for you in the full game.

  • Your achievements stay written on your profile, with their date.

Global ranking. The demo opens a new Demo Season on the world leaderboard. The score rewards playing well, not playing fast: the wave you reach, the boss you defeat, the health your gate keeps, the people you save, the flames you keep lit and the orders you complete.

The captain who finishes the Demo Season first in the world ranking will get a surprise.

To appear on the leaderboard, keep the option Publish my watches to the ranking enabled (Settings → Game).

About This Demo

The Long Watch is a roguelike tower defense where you build the road the enemy walks — and then have to keep it lit. This free demo covers the first 20 waves of Act I: one full watch, from the first torch to the first boss.

You draw the map

After every wave you push the mist back one stretch of road, choosing its shape from a draft. The road decides where the enemy marches, where your towers stand and what you uncover: mana veins, barrels, ruins. No two watches are alike.

Light is territory

Torches hold the Mist back, and a tower in the dark cannot see. The enemy sends censer-bearers to snuff your flames out; your torch bearer runs to relight them. Lose the light and the ambush comes.

5 defenses, 2 doctrines each

Archer, crossbow, catapult, arcane mage, fire mage. Each one learns its craft by fighting and opens two opposing doctrines — bleed or burn, mark or detonate. Add 7 Commander powers and a new offer from the armorer after every wave. A sixth defense waits under the mist for the full game.

Shield, armor, life

Every enemy is built in layers and every tower bites each layer differently. Read the horde, set each tower's priorities, and answer with the right steel.

The people the Mist left behind

A besieged camp. A village with its lights still on. Refugees on the road. Events are deals, not cutscenes — and failing one doesn't end the watch, it makes the world stranger. Meanwhile the Commander sends orders: accept one, and earn its reward before the watch is over.

3 difficulties, 1 global ranking

Choose your watch — First Light, The Long Watch or Dead of Night — and take your score to the online leaderboard of the demo season. Between watches, spend what you earned at the Armorer's Workshop on permanent upgrades.

  • 20 waves and a boss

  • Procedural maps drafted by the player

  • Fog, torches and darkness as core mechanics

  • Permanent progression between watches

  • Online leaderboard

  • Full English voice acting, text and subtitles in 13 languages

The full game continues the watch across three acts.
