About This Game

Last Order: Life Is Told at the Bar is a narrative adventure set in a small bar called SIGNAL, hidden in the backstreets of Shimokitazawa, Tokyo.

Here, you meet people carrying stories of work, love, failure, creation, youth, regret, loss, and second chances.

Each night follows a different theme.

You choose a cocktail from several options, speak with bartender Sakaki, and slowly uncover the life behind the person sitting across the counter.

There are no battles and no complicated controls.

There is only a quiet bar, a glass on the counter, and the words people leave behind.

The cocktail you choose subtly changes the tone, direction, and emotional texture of the conversation.

At the end of each night, your experience becomes a poem — a record of what you chose, what you heard, and what remained with you.

A Visual Style Inspired by Japanese Manga and Gekiga

One of the defining features of Last Order is its visual identity.

The game uses linework inspired by traditional Japanese manga and gekiga, with fine pen strokes, cross-hatching, strong shadows, restrained expressions, and carefully composed negative space.

Rather than following a typical anime aesthetic or realistic 3D presentation, the game aims to feel like a hand-drawn Japanese graphic story brought to life on screen.

Much of the world is rendered in sepia and monochrome tones, while the cocktails appear in vivid color.

Each drink stands out visually, just as it does within the story.

Ten Themes, Ten Ways of Looking at Life

The game explores ten recurring themes:

  • Rail Travel — Journeys and Crossroads

  • Baseball — Teamwork and Roles

  • Fishing — Waiting and Letting Go

  • Painting — Perspective and Composition

  • Mountaineering — Summits and Retreat

  • Theater — Roles and Masks

  • Music — Harmony and Dissonance

  • Student Days — Unfinished Memories

  • Photography — Moments and Records

  • Letters & Notes — Words Left Unsaid

Each theme offers a different way to look at life.

One night may feel like a train leaving a station.
Another may resemble a game, a painting, a climb, a melody, or a letter that was never sent.

These are not stories about heroes.

They are stories about ordinary people who hesitate, fail, stop, begin again, let things go, and keep moving forward.

Choose a Drink. Receive a Story. Leave With a Poem.

Each night, you choose one cocktail from several options.

Your choice influences the direction of the conversation, Sakaki’s responses, and the emotional tone of the evening.

At the end of the night, those choices are transformed into a poem.

The poem is more than a result screen.

It is a quiet record of what you noticed, what you chose, and what the night meant to you.

Sakaki, the Bartender

Behind the counter is Sakaki.

He does not give you easy answers.

He mixes drinks, listens carefully, and occasionally leaves you with a few words to think about.

But as you return to SIGNAL night after night, you may begin to understand not only the guests, but also Sakaki himself — and what this bar truly means.

On later playthroughs, new elements begin to emerge, revealing things that were hidden the first time through.
