What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Balancing a deckbuilder with deep, complex mechanics is difficult to do without broader iteration. I want to create an experience that feels good to play no matter what happens in your run, and for that it's necessary to collaborate with the community's feedback and experiences.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It will be in Early Access until I feel that the mission of universal pleasant runs is achieved. I don't expect this to take more than a year or so.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to prioritize balance - not just of power level but also of fun. Fun cards will stay and improve, boring cards will be reworked, and power levels will be modified. I plan on adding plenty of brand-new content throughout Early Access as well, like enemies, keepsakes, cards, events, etc.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All of the features in the "About this game" section are implemented. There are three Acts with all of their fights, besides some alternate bosses which need to be added. Cards and Keepsakes are finished (besides balancing), though more will likely be added throughout Early Access. Full art assets exist for most Keepsakes and all fights in Acts 1 and 2. Meta progression, like unlocking cards and tracking winrates, is fully implemented.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may marginally increase with a final version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan on prioritizing player feedback and collecting data about pickrates, winrates, etc. to empower game design choices that make all in-game decisions feel conditionally correct.”

About This Game

You are but a humble garden gnome.

Through your many long years, in which you gathered an above-average amount of wisdom, you have decided that the creatures prowling through your garden are a little abnormal. So, you set out on a mission to identify them. They're not pleased about it.

Gnomenclature is a roguelike deckbuilder where your cards go on a grid, and you can only play an entire line of cards at once. Get the line order right and your power will increase exponentially.

Cards are on a grid instead of a hand

Your cards lay on a grid, which expands throughout your run. You can't play cards individually! Each play is an entire row or column. Plan out your turns to build huge combos that would never be possible one card at a time.

Order is everything

Each card in a line affects the cards after it. Manage your Swap Charges to order things optimally and get the most out of your limited energy.

Wear hats

Collect different hats throughout your run that give you an edge in peculiar ways.

Each encounter is a choice between two event pools, some of which can hold these valuable pieces of gnomewear. Or, if you prefer, you can Let Fate Decide!

Look at my art

I drew a lot of silly goofy guys, so you'll be forced to look at them while you play. Not negotiable.

Wishlist me!

The garden gets a little bit bigger and more interesting with each update. Add Gnomenclature to your wishlist and you'll stay up to date on its development! :D
