Clade is the story of one world, from the first spark of life to the first ship among the stars. Rise from a single cell in a primordial ocean, crawl onto land as a creature fighting to survive, lead your tribe to become a great civilisation, and carry your people's legacy into a galaxy of rival worlds. Every stage takes place in the same persistent world, shaped by what came before. Play the whole journey, or start at whichever stage you like.

Aquatic Stage: Life Begins

• From cell to swimmer. Begin as a single cell, develop eyes, and grow into a fish-like creature exploring a fully 3D underwater world.

• Leave the water. Evolve legs and make the leap onto land.

Creature Stage: Survive the Wild

• Hunt and be hunted. Manage hunger, thirst and stamina in a wilderness full of predators and prey.

• Grow and gather. Raise your young from hatchling to adult, build nests and run with a pack.

• Design your species. Shape your creature in the creature creator, and watch it walk, swim and hunt the way you built it.

Civilisation Stage: Conquer a Living Planet

• A world with no edges. Build your empire across the surface of a whole planet, whether it's a true-to-life Earth or a new world generated from a seed.

• Up to 120 rival empires. Settle cities, gather resources and grow alongside dozens of AI civilisations and independent city-states.

• Advance through the ages. Lead your people from the Dark Age through the modern era, researching technologies, shaping civics and choosing how you govern.

• Diplomacy that travels. Couriers carry messages, pleas for aid and declarations of war across the world, so distance matters.

• Reach for the sky. Win the race to space, and launch your civilisation beyond its homeworld.

Space Stage: A Galaxy of Rivals

• Explore the stars. Travel a galaxy of hyperlane routes, where every star system is a full 3D map.

• Your history shapes the galaxy. The empires you outlasted on your homeworld don't vanish. Their governors break away to found colonies of their own and become your first rivals among the stars.

Play Your Way

• Start at any stage. Each stage stands on its own as a complete game.

• Play with friends. Share a world online and build, trade and fight together.

• Create and share. Design creatures and buildings, and share them with other players through the Steam Workshop.

• Real time, your pace. Pause at any moment, or speed up time when your world is running smoothly.

Clade is made by a small independent developer. During development, AI tools were used to help write some of the game's code, and to create some placeholder 3D models and text. All placeholder art is being replaced with handmade work, and this note will be updated as that happens. The game does not generate any content with AI while you play. The computer controlled empires are traditional game AI written for Clade, not generative AI.
