What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Samhan is a strategy game about the rise and fall of Korea's Later Three Kingdoms. The foundation of statecraft, diplomacy and war is in place, and a campaign can be played to unification or defeat, but what we build on top of that foundation is still open. Which factions' stories to expand first, what kinds of mid- and late-game pressure the game needs, and how much direct control players should have over battles and large armies are questions we want to answer together with real players, which is why we are launching in Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last roughly six months to a year. This may change as player feedback shapes the direction of development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are exploring the directions below, and feedback will decide what comes first: post-launch stability; the path to unification (which local lords you rely on, victories and legitimacy, pushback against a growing power); the economy (making the people on the registers the state's strength, and the cost of taxation and long campaigns); and battle (terrain, ambushes and night raids that let a fight be turned, and how the battlefield looks). We will also look at faction events and character stories, officer voices, naval warfare, conveniences for commanding large armies, and historical detail. Depending on player suggestions, systems not on this list may be added and some may be dropped.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“A full campaign can be played across 5 scenarios and 27 factions, with biographies of historical figures, illustrated historical events, per-faction endings and a tutorial. All text is available in 10 languages. Some areas are still rough: mid- and late-game balance and AI responses, the uneven number of unique events between factions, and officer voices that currently cover only sortie lines, and storehouses that fill up too easily as a campaign goes on, so the economy supports war rather than limiting it. During Early Access, updates may make saves from earlier versions incompatible.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price is planned to increase before the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read bug reports and suggestions on the Steam discussion boards and ask there what we should work on next. Every update comes with patch notes explaining what changed and which feedback it reflects.”

About This Game

900 AD — The Three Han Fall Apart Once More

Torn by bloody feuds among its nobles and crushed by ruinous taxes, Silla can no longer make its royal writ heard beyond the walls of its capital. Gyeon Hwon takes up the grudge of Baekje at Wansanju; Gung Ye cries for the rebirth of old Goguryeo. Bandits and local lords raise walls of their own in an age of warlords. Who will unite the Three Han again?

Rule the Realm

  • Develop your settlements: Cultivate farmland, trade and order, and raise 24 kinds of buildings.

  • Keep your people fed: Let living standards collapse and your tax income dries up—until your towns rise in revolt.

  • Policies and taxes: Set your course with 13 policies. Heavy taxes fill the granary but cost you the people's hearts.

  • Supply chains: Mine iron, forge tools, and breed horses to field cavalry.

Wage War on the Map

  • A 3D peninsula built from real elevation data: Mountains and rivers, roads and fords decide your marching routes and battlefields.

  • Armies, marches and supply: Field infantry, archers, cavalry, crossbowmen and navies. An army cut off from supply starves.

  • Field battles: Clash with unit counters, formations and 15 tactics, and challenge enemy generals to single combat.

  • Sieges: Starve the defenders out, or batter the walls and storm them?

Win Hearts, Win the Realm

  • 500+ historical figures: From Gyeon Hwon, Gung Ye and Wang Geon to forgotten castle lords, each with their own stats, traits and biography.

  • Offices and treasures: Appoint a Grand General and a Strategist, and bestow 32 legendary treasures such as the Seven-Branched Sword to secure loyalty.

  • Captives: Recruit the enemy generals you capture, or execute them?

  • Diplomacy and intrigue: Alliances, truces, tribute and vassalage; political marriages and hostages; sowing discord and bribery.

Five Eras, Twenty-Seven Factions

From the age of warlords in 892 to the eve of the final war between Goryeo and Hubaekje in 927, choose one of five scenarios and 27 factions and rewrite history. Historical events and passages from the Samguk Sagi and Goryeosa bring each era to life.

Early Access Roadmap

These are the directions we are considering. Your feedback decides what comes first, so the order and content may change, and we do not promise dates.

  • Stability: first we fix crashes, saves, performance (especially large battles on lower-spec PCs) and translation issues after launch, and report them in patch notes.
  • The path to unification: whose hearts do you win? Which local lords you rely on, how victories and legitimacy sway your neighbors, and the pushback that grows as a power grows, strengthened for the mid and late game.
  • Economy: so that only the people on the registers (the pangjeok) count as the state's strength, we want to refine the cost of heavy taxation and long campaigns, people fleeing or hiding, and how economic power translates into staying power in war. A known issue today is that storehouses fill up too easily.
  • Battle: on top of the principle that the side with greater wealth and strength should win, we want to widen the room for terrain, reading the enemy's stance, ambushes and night raids to turn a battle when you command it yourself, and polish how the battlefield looks.
  • Ongoing: faction-specific events and character stories, officer voices, the sea and naval routes, conveniences for commanding wide fronts, historical detail, and translations.

The price is planned to increase before the full release.
