What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Emberwatch combines direct hero combat with building defenses against growing enemy waves. We want players to help shape how its classes, defenses and Legacy progression work together while we develop a larger endgame. Feedback on build variety, difficulty, combat readability and longer runs will help guide the planned Queen survival finale, additional maps and Legacy choices, as well as improvements to the existing game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Emberwatch to remain in Early Access for approximately 12–18 months after its Early Access launch. This is an estimate rather than a fixed release date. Our planned work includes a Queen survival endgame, two additional maps and an expanded Legacy system, alongside balancing, bug fixes and performance improvements. The timing may change with development progress, testing and player feedback. We plan to share progress and update this estimate if our expectations change significantly.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For version 1.0, we plan to expand the Queen encounter into a survival finale where regular waves give way to continuous attacks from the Queen and her nests, with defeating her becoming the goal of the run. This survival finale is not part of the current wave-based version.

We also aim to add two maps with different terrain, attack routes and defensive positions, and approximately six to eight Legacy upgrades or playstyle choices, including Queen-related rewards. These would combine modest stat improvements with meaningful options for approaching a run. We plan to continue refining balance, the tutorial, visual clarity, stability and crowded-battle performance. These are development goals, and their details may evolve with testing and player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build includes single-player wave defense with direct hero combat, three starting classes—Arcanist, Vanguard and Ranger—five maps, towers, connected walls, traps, equipment and permanent Legacy progression. It includes wave-based boss encounters, an optional guided tutorial and selectable Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty.

The planned continuous-survival Queen finale is not included in this version. Balance, visual polish and performance are still being improved; very crowded battles can cause frame-rate drops.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the same price during Early Access and after the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can send bug reports and suggestions through the support contact listed on our Steam store page. Please include your class and difficulty, what happened and what you expected; screenshots or recordings can help us investigate. We plan to use feedback to prioritize fixes and guide balancing, new map layouts, Legacy choices and the Queen survival finale. We also plan to share development progress and explain important changes through Steam announcements.”

About This Game

Keep the last flame burning

Emberwatch is a single-player dark fantasy action roguelite that combines direct combat with tower defense. Build your defenses and fight alongside them as waves of enemies threaten the flame you’re sworn to protect.

Build your defenses. Join the fight.

Place towers, walls, and traps to shape your defensive position, then take the battlefield yourself. Your defenses support you, but holding the line also depends on where you move and which threats you confront.

Choose your class

Take your stand as the Arcanist, Vanguard, or Ranger. Experiment with different approaches to combat and find the combination of hero and defenses that suits you.

Leave a legacy

A fallen defender isn’t the end. Earn Legacy progression, unlock permanent upgrades, and return better prepared for another attempt.
