About This Game

True Asynchronous Play: Play your turns how you want and when you want

Empires of the Axis and Abyss is a 4X strategy game built to play with your friends no matter what time zone they are in. Turns resolve on the server, asynchronously. A space odyssey that allows two to eight commanders run complex strategies across a shared galaxy.

Standing battle plans are armed in advance and the carried out by our host system. Strategic outcomes, combat recorders and then presented to the player so the next round can begin.

Two incompatible ways to cross a galaxy

The charted Axis lanes are fast, ordered, and vulnerable to choke points. The lane-less Abyss storms between them will take a fleet to any coordinate you like and bleed it for every turn it stays there. Choosing between them is the map's central decision.

A fleet you designed, not a stack you built

  • Eight houses, each with its own doctrine, ships and strategic advantages77 ship hulls and 8 fitted modules

  • Three-band combat with named captains and 19 captain traits

  • A replay that renders every shot from a deterministic server-side resolve

  • 14 research disciplines and six resources to balance

  • A galactic market, sieges, territorial influence

  • 180 story events, from quiet anomalies to decisions you argue about afterwards

  • Multiple victory paths including domination, score and research

What the Commander's Edition is

The desktop client, with roughly 2.5 GB of art, audio and cinematics bundled locally instead of streamed, and four months of Admiral hosting included.

Before you buy

This is an online game: it needs an internet connection and a free Axis and Abyss account. You can play solo against AI commanders, but there is no offline mode.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Empires of the Axis and Abyss is made by one developer, and generative AI is used as a production tool for visual and audio volume that a solo project could not otherwise commission.

AI-generated, then reviewed, edited and assembled by hand:
• Key art, store capsules and title screens
• Ship sprites, hull art, faction crests, icons and UI art
• Planet, event and cinematic illustration
• Short cinematic video sequences
• The soundtrack
• Voice narration and house dialogue, recorded from scripts written by the developer

Partly AI-assisted: some in-game prose. The premise, structure, branching and outcomes of all 180 story events are authored design. The wording is a mix — some written outright, some drafted with AI assistance and then edited, often heavily. Every line that ships has been read and revised by a person.

Not AI-generated: the game design and all its systems, the code, the interface and HUD, the galaxy and lane generation, the ship specification data, and the licensed stock audio in the sound effects.

No AI model runs while you play. Nothing is generated at runtime, and no player input is ever sent to a model.
