ABOUT THE GAME

WANGZHA is a roguelike deckbuilder built on Dou Dizhu, the Chinese card game where a 2 beats an Ace. Play hands, pay the rent, and grow your seals a little more with every hand.

PLAY REAL DOU DIZHU HANDS

Singles, pairs, straights, planes with wings, bombs and the rocket. Every hand scores as base times multiplier, and the longer the straight, the bigger the base. Sort by rank or by suit, swap the cards you don't want, then play.

GROW YOUR MULTIPLIER

Seals are the only source of multiplier, and none of them start big. A seal that likes straights grows every time you play one. Buy the same seal again and it stacks, growing twice as fast. Your seals keep growing long after you buy them.

BEAT THE LANDLORD, THEN THE NEXT ONE

Each landlord sends a retainer to collect, then comes himself with a house rule: rent doubles, jokers score nothing, your oldest seal goes quiet. Beat him and a red stamp lands on his door. Above the county is the province, above the province the capital, above the capital the Emperor.

KEEP GOING AFTER THE EMPEROR

The throne is not the end. Past the Emperor wait the Earth God, the City God, King Yama, the Dragon King, the God of Wealth and the Jade Emperor. Past them the road loops and the rent climbs. The run ends when you die, not when you win.

A full run takes about forty minutes. I've played it every night for a week and the Jade Emperor still hasn't fallen.

Features

  • 90 seals, every one of them grows
  • 23 landlords from a village skinflint to the Jade Emperor, each with a house rule
  • 12 hand types, ranked the way the real game ranks them
  • 6 decks, 4 harvest years and 10 trials
  • 28 achievements
  • Full controller support, with Xbox, PlayStation and Switch button prompts

If it clicks, wishlist it and come collect rent on launch day.
