What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to build Into the Country with player feedback rather than disappearing for years and guessing. Early Access gives me a way to see what people actually enjoy, what drags, what’s confusing, and what needs more work while the game is still flexible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Probably around 1–2 years, but I don’t want to lock myself to an exact date this early. I’d rather take the time needed to finish it properly than rush out of Early Access just to hit a deadline.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan is for the game to grow quite a bit during Early Access: more story, more areas, more character and relationship content, more activities, and deeper versions of the systems already in the game. A lot will also be spent polishing what’s already there based on feedback and issues.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is playable and already has the core tone I think, characters and systems in place, including exploration, dialogue choices, relationships, fishing, woodcutting, foraging and other interactive sections. It’s still very much in development though, so some areas, systems, visuals and balancing will keep changing. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Probably. I expect the price to increase as the game gets substantially more content, but I don’t have a fixed schedule for that yet.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Mostly by responding to feedback and learning. I’ll be using Steam discussions, feedback forms, and the existing community around the game to track bugs, pacing issues, confusing sections, etc etc, and what people want more or less of. I’ll also post updates and patch notes as things change.”

About This Game

LEAVE THE GREY BEHIND

It's 2031; you're looking for a way out.

Concrete prisms. Work. Money. Screens. That slowly churning feeling that something is wrong. Then an old man puts up an ad and sells you a half-ruined house in the northern mountains for almost nothing.

You probably should wonder why.

Into the Country is a story-rich life sim and visual novel about leaving modern life behind and trying to build something smaller and stranger, while searching for meaning in the remote village of Seishin.

There are mountains to climb. Streams to fish. Food to find. People to know.

And there are places not to go, and people perhaps better left unknown.

BUILD A LIFE YOU CAN TOUCH

Cut those logs! Move those chickens! Yank those plants!

Many of Into the Country's activities are designed to feel tactile and physical. Navigate through spaces, handle objects, reel in a struggling fish, pull forage from plants, split timber, start engines, and interact directly with the world around you.

Everyday work sits alongside first-person exploration, changing weather and time, wildlife, hidden places, complex characters, all playing out under a completely original (human-made) soundtrack.

It's not a bad place to settle. Maybe even to live... For a while.

EXPERIENCE AND SHAPE THEIR STORIES

The people of Seishin had lives long before you arrived.

They have histories, flaws, wants, strengths, conflicts and moods of their own. Talk to them. Help them. Get involved. Take sides. Influence them, and let them influence you.

Water someone's plants. Run an errand. Help when a crisis hits — or decide not to.

Friendship can become intimacy. Intimacy can become love, rivalry, resentment, sex, or something harder to define. Your choices shape the people you grow close to and the community you're becoming part of.

Not everything begins neatly. Not everything ends that way, either.

THE WORLD IS ERODING LIKE SAND

You came here to get away from everything.

Unfortunately, everything followed.

The world beyond the mountains is becoming more expensive, unstable and angry. Strange events become harder to dismiss. Old wounds beneath Seishin begin to surface. People disappear, break down, lash out, and cling harder to one another.

At first, distance makes all of that easy to ignore, but a darkness migrates upward.

Into the Country is ultimately a story about beauty, work, love, mortality, and what people owe one another when the future stops feeling infinite.

Build something while you still can.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used during development to create or assist in the creation of portions of the game's pre-generated 2D artwork, codework, and marketing assets. These artworks are created primarily using a local model, which has been designed and diluted toward the creators own artstyle.

• All characters/locations/image assets are first sketched or designed by hand.
• No sound effects/music/character voices are currently generated with AI.
• Absolutely NO writing/story has, or ever will be, generated with AI.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Into the Country contains occasional profanity, sexual references and adult humour, implied off-screen sexual activity, and depictions of tobacco use. The game also contains some dark and unsettling scenes and mature themes. The current version does not contain graphic sexual acts, visible genitalia, sexual violence, or graphic gore.
