What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Fleet Forge combines custom ship design, fleet preparation, and real-time tactical space combat. Those systems create many possible fleet compositions and tactics, and player feedback can help shape how they work together. Early Access gives players a chance to influence combat balance, fleet controls, usability, and campaign progression while these parts of the game are still being developed.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We do not yet have a reliable target date for leaving Early Access. Our current priority is to improve the core combat and fleet-management systems, then complete a dedicated revision and testing pass on the campaign missions. The time needed will depend on testing and player feedback. We plan to share progress and revise this estimate as the remaining work becomes clearer.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to refine fleet movement and formations, enemy behavior, weapon and ship balance, and the clarity of the battlefield and preparation screens. We also plan to revise campaign missions, objectives, difficulty, and story presentation after the core systems have settled. The intended full version would offer a more consistent and polished experience across campaign, skirmish, and Survival. These are development goals; the scope and priorities may change with testing and community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build includes single-player skirmish against the computer, wave-based Survival, and a campaign with 12 operations. Players can design and equip ships, prepare a fleet, assign campaign officers, and command battles with tactical pause. Combat includes guns, missiles, energy weapons, shields, ammunition, repair, and supply support. Campaign fleet management uses credits for purchases and upgrades.

The game is still in development. Campaign missions and progression need further revision and playtesting, and combat balance, ship movement, interface readability, and performance are ongoing areas of work. Bugs and rough edges remain. Two-player LAN skirmish is experimental and still needs testing on separate computers; internet multiplayer is not currently a supported feature.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to offer Fleet Forge at a lower price during Early Access. We may increase the price for the full release if the added content and overall polish justify it. The final release price has not been fixed, and we plan to communicate any price increase in advance through Steam announcements.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use Steam Discussions for bug reports, suggestions, and conversations about balance and usability, and Steam announcements to share updates and development priorities. Reports that include the game version, mode, fleet composition, and steps to reproduce a problem are especially useful. We want feedback on ship designs, battle controls, difficulty, and campaign pacing to help guide priorities. Suggestions will be considered alongside testing and the overall direction of the game, rather than treated as guaranteed additions.”

About This Game

Build the fleet. Fight the battle. Bring your ships home.

Fleet Forge is a single-player space strategy game combining ship design, fleet preparation, and real-time tactical combat with pause. Your work begins before the first shot: choose the ships you can support, choose their components, assign officers, and load the ammunition and repair supplies they will need. Then take command when the plan meets the enemy.

Design ships for the fight ahead

Customize hull layouts and installed components in the ship designer. Mix guns, missiles, energy weapons, shields, and support equipment to shape each ship's role. Build a balanced escort force or concentrate your resources into heavier warships; different missions call for different compromises.

Command the firing line

Pause to inspect the battlefield and issue orders, then resume the action. Set targets, reposition individual ships or groups, and choose line, double-line, and wedge formations. Friendly ships make local adjustments to create room in the line while keeping their hulls separate. Decide when to hold, when to press an attack, and when withdrawal is worth more than another kill.

Power is a tactical decision

Redistribute reactor power between engines, shields, energy weapons, and repair. Lock important settings while adjusting the rest. A faster retreat, stronger shield, or harder-hitting laser draws power away from something else. Guns and missiles bring a different constraint: finite ammunition.

Keep a fleet ready for the next battle

Your campaign fleet persists between missions. Repair survivors, refit equipment, assign officers with distinct perks, and decide where limited credits will do the most good. Manufacture supplies and selected ships, manage available stock, and reload the battle fleet before deployment. Supply and repair ships support the force during combat, but they need cargo of their own.

Fight through the record of a war

Follow a 12-mission campaign across the solar system, from the Phobos incident to Titan Crossing. Escort convoys, defend facilities, raid enemy positions, and cover desperate evacuations. Between operations, classroom scenes frame the conflict as a history lesson, exploring the people behind the orders and the gaps left in the surviving record.

Keep testing your tactics

Step outside the campaign for skirmish battles or take on escalating enemy waves in Survival. Experiment with ship designs, fleet composition, and battlefield decisions.
