Why Early Access?

“We want to develop NEKOGAERI with feedback from players on what makes a journey home exciting, rewarding, and fun to share. Early Access will help us refine the balance between taking risks, exploring for supplies, and helping other cats, while improving the feel of movement and cooperative play.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last around six months to one year. This is an estimate and may change depending on development progress and player feedback. We will assess the variety and balance of journeys and the stability of cooperative play before deciding when to move to the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the variety of routes, encounters, and equipment, and refine the survival balance so that each journey offers interesting choices. We also plan to improve gamepad controls, cat movement and appearance, controls, performance, and the stability of cooperative play. Priorities and the scope of these improvements may change based on testing and player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current development build implements single-player and cooperative play for up to four players, randomized journeys, hunger and cold, huddling, sharing food, carrying hungry companions, bridge repairs and detours, treasure and equipment, and cat customization. A journey can end in a return home or a rescue after the group can no longer continue. Balance, presentation, performance, and online connectivity are still being tested and refined. The game interface is available in Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the same base price during Early Access and after the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use the Steam Community discussions and support email to gather impressions, suggestions, and bug reports. We are particularly interested in the difficulty and length of journeys, the value of detours, and moments when helping another cat feels satisfying. This feedback will inform development priorities, and we plan to share changes through Steam announcements.”

About This Game

Far from home, a cat has two things to rely on: a good nose and good company.
NEKOGAERI is a third-person survival adventure for solo play or online co-op with up to four cats. NPC cats accompany you in solo play.

Meow, pounce, and share a meal


A friend meows from the far bank, sending startled fish toward you. Wiggle your bottom, aim, and pounce. Catch one with a flurry of bunny kicks, then carry it in your mouth. Eat it a little at a time and share with nearby companions.

Huddle up for the road ahead


When you're wet and cold, take shelter and press close together. Carry an exhausted, hungry friend in your mouth until food gets them back on their paws. If everyone can no longer move, the trip ends in failure. Don’t worry if you don’t make it home. You can head out together again.

Let your nose—and your curiosity—lead


Forests, grasslands, mountain trails, snowy peaks, rivers, and flooded towns await in a wide, freshly generated landscape. Sniff out food, friends, and home. Repair a bridge for a shortcut, or go around the river? Ask for a meal at a house, or search a building for treasure? Hunger and weather keep changing while you explore.

Your cat, your home


Start with a breed preset and adjust your coat, fur length, and face. Paint a pattern of your own. Glasses, ribbons, hats, clothes, and backpacks help you on your journey; you can also hide their appearance while keeping their effects.
Back home, decorate your house and garden with what you've brought back. Arrange furniture from an overhead view, or carry balls and yarn around for a little playtime before the next trip.
