About This Game

DEEP COVER AI MECHANICS

No scripts. No fake cover spots. Just soldiers who want to live.

Real cover, from real walls

Every wall, crate, car, wreck, trench and window counts as cover, because the soldiers check the actual shapes around them, Get flanked and that cover stops working, instantly.

They fight like soldiers

Behind a low wall they crouch, rise to fire and drop again. At a tall wall they step round the corner, lean into the shot and duck back. Ducking really blinds them. Standing up really exposes them.

They hear, remember and want to live

They turn toward gunfire they can't see, share what they spot over the radio, and remember where the bullets were flying, so they won't stroll across a killing zone unless you make them.

Every bullet counts

Near misses keep heads down and pin guys in place. Ammo runs out for real: a position running low goes quiet, long bursts turn into single shots, and anyone passing a body helps himself to its magazines.

NOBODY GETS LEFT BEHIND

Wounded isn't dead. Not yet.

Down, not dead

A soldier who runs out of health goes down, screams for a medic and starts bleeding out. If he's got the strength, he drags himself toward cover.

The rescue

His squad lays down covering fire until it's safe enough, then someone sprints out, grabs him by the shoulders and drags him back while a buddy walks backwards beside them, shooting. The wounded guy keeps firing his pistol while he's dragged.

Patched up on the spot

Someone kneels over him, dresses the wound and does CPR, and he gets back up to fight. Medics do it twice as fast. Every time he goes down he's got less left in him, so his luck runs out eventually.

The medic tent

Build one and stretcher bearers run out for your wounded and even your dead, carry them in and send them back out healed. Two carry the stretcher, a lone bearer drags, and if one gets shot the other keeps going.

PRISONERS WHO TALK

Take them alive. They know things.

Hands up

Cut off, surrounded and under fire, a soldier might throw down his rifle, put his hands up and beg you not to shoot. It's rare: he only gives up when his mates are down and nobody's coming to save him.

The march back

One of your guys cuffs him and marches him back to your base, questioning him all the way, and he talks: how many men they've got left, their armour, where their base is, what's in the air, their ammo, their money and what they're planning next. All true, right at that moment.

Intel you can use

When he gives away their base, it pops up on your radar. It works both ways though: lose one of your guys to the enemy and he'll spill everything, and their general acts on it.

New recruit, or a cell underground

Hand him over and he switches sides: "I'M WITH YOU NOW." The Rebels keep theirs instead, on their knees in a tunnel cell under guard, and question them again and again for live intel on where your troops are right now.

THE SMALL DETAILS

The little things that make the battlefield feel alive.

  • Grenades come back. Toss one at a guy with enough nerve and he'll grab it off the floor and throw it straight back.

  • Blown off their feet. Blasts throw soldiers through the air. Some get back up, dazed, and stagger around trying to find their feet.

  • Vault, slide, dive, brawl. They vault walls, slide into cover, dive away from grenades and fight hand to hand when it gets close.

  • Pick up the gun. Lose your machine gunner and somebody runs out to grab his gun and take over.

  • Tanks that feel heavy. Tanks smash through walls, rounds ricochet off their armour, a thrown track leaves them stranded, and a dead tank can blow its turret clean off. Hit one from behind and it dies way faster, so your RPG guys work their way round.

  • Drones overhead. FPV operators fly kamikaze drones into your men and tanks. Soldiers hear them coming, try to shoot them down and dive out of the way at the last second.

  • They talk. Speech bubbles pop up as they shout orders, get hit and call for a medic.

BASE BUILDING

Nothing in Defilade pops out of the ground finished. Place a building and your guys walk over and build it by hand while the fight carries on around them.

The FOB is everything

Your forward base is a fortified position your troops can fight from and the ammo point they run back to, and every one you finish raises your unit cap. Lose your last FOB and it's game over.

Supply is your lifeline

Every finished FOB lays its own road back to your lines, and supply trucks start running it. That supply pays for everything. Trucks can be ambushed, and if the enemy cuts the chain, every FOB past the break goes dark.

Build it up, dig it in

Barracks, factories, research, helipads and medic tents. Trenches, concrete walls, wire, mines, tank traps, MG nests and watchtowers. The Rebels even dig complex tunnel systems.

Then hold it

Everything you build can be shot to pieces and patched back up, and any FOB can be captured by whoever walks in and holds it. The AI plays by exactly the same rules, and it wants your FOBs. Play it in online co-op with a friend, or against one.

Dig in. Hold the line. Don't lose your last FOB.
