Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“MOTHERLODE is a systems-driven mining, prospecting, processing, and engineering game, and many of its systems are designed to interact with one another in ways that become more interesting as players experiment with them.

Early Access gives us the opportunity to put the playable game into the hands of a wider community while continuing to refine progression, balance, usability, multiplayer behavior, performance, and the overall player experience.

Player feedback is especially valuable for a game built around different ways of solving the same problems—from working material by hand to constructing larger processing, power, water, and logistics networks. We want real player experiences to help guide which areas deserve the most attention as MOTHERLODE continues to develop.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect MOTHERLODE to remain in Early Access for approximately 12 to 18 months.

This is an estimate rather than a fixed deadline. The length of Early Access may change depending on development needs, technical work, and what we learn from player feedback. Our priority is to continue improving the game rather than committing to a release date before it is ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version of MOTHERLODE to build upon the systems already available in Early Access with additional content, progression, equipment, machinery, locations, and opportunities for larger and more sophisticated mining operations.

We also plan to continue refining the economy, progression pacing, multiplayer experience, user interface, accessibility, performance, presentation, balance, and the interactions between mining, processing, logistics, power, water, construction, and other supporting systems.

The exact scope may evolve during Early Access. Community feedback and what we learn from players will help inform which additions and improvements provide the greatest value to the finished game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“MOTHERLODE is currently playable and includes its core gameplay loop.

Players can prospect and sample terrain, excavate finite mineral-bearing deposits, process recovered material manually or through machinery, sell recovered products, purchase equipment, expand into additional claims, and reinvest earnings into increasingly capable mining operations.

The current game includes physical material handling and conservation, manual mining and panning, equipment progression, processing machinery, conveyors and material routing, storage, water and power networks, machine upgrades, an economy and shop system, claim progression, persistent saves, world and weather systems, and multiplayer functionality.

Players can begin with simple hands-on prospecting and gradually develop more complex processing and logistics networks. The game is actively being developed, so Early Access players should expect continued balance changes, improvements, fixes, additional content, and refinement of existing systems.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently expect MOTHERLODE's price to increase when the game transitions from Early Access to its full release.

Our intention is to offer Early Access at a lower price to reflect the game's development stage and reward players who support MOTHERLODE early.

As the game expands with additional content, features, improvements, and polish, we expect its overall value to grow. The final release price has not yet been determined, and we will communicate any planned pricing changes to our community in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use community feedback as an important part of MOTHERLODE's Early Access development.

We will pay particular attention to feedback about progression, balance, controls, usability, mining and processing mechanics, equipment and machinery, multiplayer, performance, bugs, and areas where the game does not communicate its systems clearly enough.

Steam Discussions and other official MOTHERLODE community channels will give players a place to report problems, share experiences, suggest improvements, and discuss how the game's interconnected systems behave in real play.

Not every suggestion will necessarily become part of the game, but player feedback will help us identify recurring problems, understand how different play styles interact with the systems, and prioritize improvements as development continues.”

About This Game

STRIKE THE MOTHERLODE

Start with simple tools, a patch of ground, and the hope that something valuable lies beneath your feet.

MOTHERLODE is a first-person mining, prospecting, processing and factory-engineering game built around one fundamental idea: the material you dig out of the ground matters.

Sample the earth and search for promising deposits. Excavate finite, composition-bearing terrain. Haul what you recover, pan it by hand, or build increasingly capable processing systems to separate valuable products from ordinary material and tailings.

What begins with a shovel can become an industrial operation.

PROSPECT. DIG. PROCESS. PROFIT.

Geology isn't simply a painted resource node waiting to be clicked. Prospect for deposits, learn what lies beneath your claim, and physically excavate the ground to recover material.

Native deposits are finite. Once you've worked out the valuable ground, you'll need to adapt, expand and search for your next opportunity.

BUILD THE OPERATION

Turn manual labor into an engineered production system.

Build and connect processing machinery, storage and material handling. Design material, water and power networks. Deal with throughput, capacity and backpressure. Improve your equipment and reorganize your plant as your operation grows.

Crusher, sluice, sorter, shaker table and other equipment aren't just decorations — each has a role in turning raw material into something worth selling.

FOLLOW THE MATERIAL

MOTHERLODE keeps track of physical material as it moves through your operation.

Excavated earth becomes material batches. Material can be processed, transported, stored, dumped into physical piles, separated into products and tailings, or deliberately discarded. Valuable material doesn't simply disappear because it passed through a machine.

Build a better operation because you understand where your material is going.

BUILD A BUSINESS

Sell what you recover and reinvest the proceeds.

Upgrade your tools. Buy better equipment. Improve hauling, storage and processing. Develop your claims and expand into new ground as existing deposits are depleted.

Your progression comes from turning knowledge, equipment and engineering into a more capable mining operation.

MORE THAN THE MINE

Your world persists beyond a single digging session. Develop your operation, manage equipment and claims, grow crops, experience changing weather and the day/night cycle, and shape the site into something that belongs to you.

Save your world and return to continue building.

DIG TOGETHER

Host or join multiplayer sessions and work in a shared world. Build, mine and operate together while MOTHERLODE maintains the distinction between shared world state and personal player progression where appropriate.

One player can prospect while another excavates. Someone else can keep the plant running.

Or you can build the entire operation yourself.

HOW DEEP WILL YOU GO?

There is always another improvement to make, another bottleneck to solve, another claim to develop — and another patch of ground that might be hiding exactly what you've been looking for.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used during development to assist in creating certain pre-generated [artwork/text/audio/etc.] included with MOTHERLODE. No generative AI is used during gameplay, and the game does not connect to external AI services while being played.
