What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Building your own paths and combining defenses can lead to layouts and builds we did not anticipate during development. We want to see which combinations players use, whether some defenses are hard to put to good use, and where progression slows down or difficulty rises too sharply. Players' experiences will help us refine the existing systems and find a direction for endgame content with lasting appeal.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last roughly 6 months. During that time, we plan to settle on the structure of the new endgame content and review progression balance and the stability of late-game battles. The timeline may change depending on how development goes, and we will announce any change to the schedule on Steam.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are planning endgame content to replace Endless Mode. The specific design and schedule have not been decided. Our aim is to make continued play feel rewarding, with a clear sense of growth and satisfaction from the defenses and builds you have developed.

We also plan to adjust the balance of defenses, specializations, and gear so that a range of combinations can be useful. We intend to improve placement and gear management, make battles easier to read, and work on performance and stability. The details and order of this work may change based on player feedback and development progress.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current development version includes custom paths and defensive layouts, wave-based battles, defense unlocks and upgrades, specializations, and modification modules that you can acquire, equip, and recalibrate. You can face various enemies and bosses, then prepare for the next battle using the paths and defenses that remain between waves.

Endless Mode is also available, but its balance still needs work. It may feel boring or frustrating to progress through.

Your layout and progression carry over during normal play. However, Early Access updates that make major changes to save formats or game data may reset your progress.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to change the price during Early Access or at full release. If that plan changes, we will announce it in advance on Steam.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to gather feedback through the Steam discussion boards and comments on update announcements. Tell us about the builds you use, waves you find difficult, awkward controls, or bugs. Including your path layout, defenses, specializations, and gear will help us understand the situation. We will prioritize problems shared by multiple players and issues that affect build choices, and explain changes and their reasons in the patch notes.”

About This Game

ROBOTS TO SCRAP is a tower defense game where you design enemy routes, place defenses, and strengthen them with resources and gear earned in battle.

Design the paths your enemies take

Shape your paths and position your defenses to choose where you engage the enemy. Use long straight paths to attack from a distance, or concentrate firepower where several defenses can cover the same area.

Combine defenses with different roles

Each defense attacks differently and fills a different role. Slow enemies down or gather them in one place, then arrange your defenses to bring their firepower together.

Your defenses stay in place

Your paths and defenses stay in place after each wave. Build on your existing layout, reinforce weak spots, and add new defenses to prepare for the next battle.

Collect a variety of gear in battle

Defeat enemies and collect modification modules with different rarities and bonuses. Refine your gear setup by looking for bonuses and unique legendary effects that suit your build.

Equip your defenses with the gear you find

Fit modification modules into your defenses' sockets to change how they perform. Compare and combine module bonuses to build on the strengths of your main defenses or make up for their weaknesses.

Upgrade your defenses with scrap

Spend scrap collected in battle to improve damage and other stats your defenses need. You keep the scrap you have already collected even when you lose, so you can address weak spots and try again.

Change how your defenses attack with specializations

Specializations change how your defenses attack and operate. Combine multiple specializations on the same defense and add gear bonuses to create builds that suit your paths and the enemies you face.

Adapt to different enemies and bosses

Enemies range from those that shield themselves and nearby enemies to bosses with distinct behaviors. Adjust your defense combinations and choose where to concentrate firepower based on the enemies you face.

Endless Mode lets you keep fighting with the defenses you have developed and put your builds to the test. Its balance still needs work, though, and you may find it boring or frustrating to progress through.
