What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Munera is fully playable today: a complete run, the shop, Shields, bosses, and the scoring systems that make a build. We are releasing in Early Access so players can help decide what the game still needs, instead of us guessing in isolation.

I want two things from Early Access. First, help finding bugs, broken synergies, and balance problems that only show up across hundreds of runs. Second, ideas for what to add next: new Shields, new bosses, shop options, and other ways to twist a run. If a Shield feels missing, a boss feels unfair, or a mechanic begs for a variant, that is the feedback I’m looking for.

I’ll read Steam discussions, take suggestions seriously, and ship updates as the roster and the rest of the game grow toward 1.0.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan for Early Access to last about one month. That window is for bug fixes, balance tweaks, and player suggestions (new Shields, bosses, and similar ideas). If feedback needs more time to land in a stable build, Early Access may run a little longer.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access build is already a complete, playable game: full runs, the shop, Shields, bosses, and the scoring systems.

For 1.0, I plan to grow that foundation from player feedback rather than rebuild it. That includes:

More Shields, so there are new ways to stack a run
More bosses and other run-twisting ideas suggested by players
Balance passes on scoring, shop prices, and existing Shields
Bug fixes and quality-of-life polish that show up once more people are playing
I am not promising a specific content list or a guaranteed 1.0 date. Players should buy Munera for what it is now. Anything added during Early Access is extra.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Munera is a finished roguelike slot machine you can play from the first spin to the last round.

In this build you can:

Play full runs on five difficulties (Plebian through Emperor), with 20 rounds, or 24 on Emperor
Choose Classic or Random machines, optional starting bonuses, and seeds
Spin eight reels, freeze symbols, Boost groups, and score color, shape, and number
Use the shop to buy Shields, raise multipliers, draft symbols, and Modify, Empower, or Banish what is on the reels
Equip from a roster of 120 Shields, including type set bonuses
Face a boss every four rounds, then a bonus stage
Open Collections, local leaderboards, in-game Rules, and settings (window mode, audio, game speed)
Expect rough edges, and balance that still needs player runs. The game is meant to be worth playing now, not a demo of a future product.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I am not planning on changing the price when Munera leaves Early Access.

”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Steam Discussions is the main place I will read during Early Access.

Please post:

Bug reports (what you were doing, difficulty, seed if you have one)
Balance notes (a Shield, boss, or shop option that feels too strong, too weak, or unclear)
Ideas for new Shields, bosses, and other run options
I plan to read those threads, ask follow-up questions when something is useful, and ship updates from that feedback. Suggestions are not a promise that a specific Shield or boss will be added, but they are how I want to decide what to work on next.”

About This Game

Munera is a Roman-inspired roguelike slot machine all about sculpting the reels, stacking Shields, and beating the target.

Spin eight reels, freeze the symbols you want to keep, then score the largest matching groups of color, shape, and number. Earn enough to clear the round, spend your winnings in the shop, and rewrite the machine before the next spin. You’re going to need every edge you can get to survive the bosses, reach the final round, and claim victory.

A slot-machine roguelike you can actually build.

Every freeze, shop purchase, and Shield can dramatically alter the course of your run.

Climb five difficulties — from Plebian to Emperor — across Classic and Random machines, with starting bonuses and seeded runs.

Deftly deploy an array of potent tools: freeze reels, boost a scoring group, then hit the shop to modify, empower, or banish symbols, buy new ones, and collect Shields. Convert a Shield you no longer need into a permanent stat, or keep it in play and chase a set bonus. Use these instruments to ignite a combo frenzy and turbocharge your spins, crafting electrifying synergies.

  • 120 Shields, each with their own unique abilities

  • 8 Shield types — Generals, Philosophers, Statesmen, Emperors, Orators, Historians, Lawyers, and Gladiators — each with a special bonus when you hold four of a kind

  • 8 shapes, 4 colors, and 4 numbers on every symbol, plus wildcards and extra effects

  • 15 bosses that rewrite the rules of a round — fewer spins, dead traits, locked reels, and worse

  • 5 difficulties, two machine types, starting bonuses, and seeded runs

  • A bonus stage after every boss, where you stamp extra effects onto the machine

Immerse yourself in Munera’s Roman spectacle. Let the soundtrack carry you through the arena — wind down, escape the daily grind, and enter the slot-machine flow state.

Improve your collection and discover new Shields and secrets with every single run. Study your stats, chase the leaderboards, and prove you can beat the machine.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some of Munera’s visual assets, including Shield artwork and other 2D art, were created with generative AI during development. Those images are fixed: I review and edit them before they go into the game or onto the store page. The game does not generate AI content while you play, and it does not connect to any AI service.
