About This Game

Animated reconstructions of classic wars

Historical War: The Animation is not a real-time strategy game and not a sandbox wargame. It is a library of war films: famous campaigns reconstructed as short, playable records with play, pause, replay, and a scrubbable timeline.

Napoleon is the dividing line. His campaigns and everything after are Modern Wars; everything earlier is Ancient Wars. Each film is about five minutes—long enough to follow the main axis of a battle, short enough to finish in one sitting.

What you get

  • A timeline keyed to historical beats, with campaign notes

Ancient Wars

Alexander the Great, the Punic Wars, Cannae, the Qin unification of China, Gaixia and Han Xin’s ten-sided ambush, Caesar, the Crusades, and the Mongol conquests.

Modern Wars

The Napoleonic wars, Trafalgar, Tsushima, Jutland, the 1940 campaign in France, the Battle of Britain, the Eastern Front 1941–1945, the Pacific War, Midway, the Bismarck Sea, the Atlantic wolfpacks, Guadalcanal, Big Week, Nianzhuang in the Huaihai Campaign, and the 1991 Gulf War.
