THE WORLD CHANGED TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

The Great War nearly destroyed everything.

When it ended, the old nations disappeared, and S.H.E.L.L. took on the responsibility of rebuilding the world and making sure nothing like it could ever happen again.

And it succeeded.

Twenty-five years later, the world is a reasonably safe place once again. Weapons are banned, the old conflicts are a thing of the past, and millions of citizens can go about their lives without fear of being vaporized by an energy beam.

The price was handing an enormous amount of power to a single organization.

From the depths of the ocean, S.H.E.L.L. acts as the executive arm of a World Government whose members, inner workings, and even location remain unknown to the vast majority of the population. It watches, investigates, legislates, censors and, when it deems it necessary, intervenes.

All in the name of world peace.

WELCOME TO S.H.E.L.L.

Somewhere beneath the Atlantic lies one of S.H.E.L.L.'s largest facilities: an underwater city filled with offices, laboratories, archives, warehouses, and departments dedicated to practically every problem imaginable.

Some are vital to global security.

Others investigate literary contest fraud and cheating in racquet sports.

Kat Domino works in one of the less important ones.

She's Special Agent No. 98 of the Anomalies Department, a division so irrelevant that her office is located on one of the worst floors in the building. There, she investigates strange occurrences, impossible reports, and missions that no one else usually wants to touch.

Most of them turn out to have a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Most of them.

SOME THINGS DON'T EXIST

The Shadow Army doesn't exist.

Everyone knows that.

It's nothing more than an old conspiracy theory: a supposed clandestine organization operating beyond S.H.E.L.L.'s control that, according to those who believe such things, has spent years waiting for the right moment to make its move.

There are also stories about places that don't appear on any map. Creatures that officially never existed. Files that vanish from the archives. Facilities that even special agents aren't allowed to access.

And then there are humans.

A legendary species found in old stories, myths, and outlandish theories. Some are convinced they once existed. Others claim they might even still be out there.
