About This Game

DESKPOP is a miniature music machine that sits right on your computer desktop.

Instead of writing music directly onto a traditional timeline, you create it through physical motion. Pinballs strike bumpers, dominoes topple in sequence, pendulums swing and collide, raindrops fall onto a handpan, and little boats rise and fall with the waves—each movement triggering a note at just the right moment. Watch the devices in motion as they gradually come together to form rhythms and melodies.

The game currently features eight physics-based music engines:

Each device moves differently and has its own rhythmic character. Adjust the position, direction, quantity, force, and motion of objects, and assign pitches to individual collision points to make the same physical device play entirely different melodies.

In addition to a free-scale mode, the game includes five regional mode cards: Arabic, Celtic, Chinese, Japanese, and Indonesian. Each card offers its own scales, instruments, and tonal palette, allowing you to experiment with distinctly different musical styles.

Arrange different devices across eight tracks and multiple measures, adjust the tempo, timbre, and playing style, then set the entire machine in motion as a continuous loop. Save your creations at any time and return later to keep refining them.
