The Needle

A ship unlike anything humanity has ever seen.

In what may be our final year, it is our last hope of survival.

An alien fleet has struck Earth without warning, crippling our governments and shattering our defenses. Humanity teeters on the edge of defeat—until a final hope emerges from a secret American facility.

The Silver Needle is an experimental alien battlecruiser captured years ago and hidden from the world. Its technology is barely understood. Its capabilities are unlike anything on Earth. Among them is the power to destroy an entire planet.

Now one of humanity’s greatest naval commanders must take control of the vessel, cross hostile space, and find the enemy homeworld. The invading force is a vast hive mind—and destroying its source may be the only way to save Earth.

But The Needle is not a conventional branching adventure.

Outside of choosing where to take your ship, there are no predetermined paths. Decisions do not trigger scripted outcomes; they change the underlying simulation. Your orders affect your crew, your ship, your resources, your relationships, and the events unfolding around you. Consequences emerge naturally from the world—closer to Dwarf Fortress than Detroit: Become Human.

You will not spend the game navigating menus and studying charts while the story waits. Life continues around you. Officers report from their stations. Crises develop. Conversations overlap. Battles unfold. The world moves whether you are ready or not.

You give orders using your own voice and your own words. The game does not simply listen for specific phrases—it interprets what you mean and responds within the simulation. You are not selecting dialogue options. You are commanding a ship.

Inspired by games such as FTL, Crying Suns, and Void War, The Needle combines the depth of a space-RPG roguelike with the presentation of a cinematic space opera. It is a movie you can play—but unlike any FMV or branching game you have played before.

Save Point has been in continuous development since 2021 and is, to our knowledge, the world’s first purpose-built AI-native interactive cinematic engine. The Needle uses this technology to deliver a continuously responsive cinematic experience that goes far beyond conventional branching video. AI-assisted production tools helped create portions of the game’s pre-rendered audiovisual content, with every shipped asset human-directed, reviewed, edited, and integrated. The game also offers locally processed voice controls, alongside keyboard and gamepad support. No unreviewed audiovisual content is generated and delivered to players during gameplay. The project represents tens of thousands of hours of human design, engineering, direction, editing, and testing, with AI serving as the enabling technology behind an experience an independent studio could not otherwise produce at any cost, much less a reasonable one. We didn't use AI to save money, we used it because without AI there wasn't enough money in the world to build a game like this.
