About This Game

Driver Wars places you behind the wheel as a commuter in a city of chaos. In this comedic driving simulator, you must utilize souped-up cars, wacky gadgets, and your own wits to survive. With an epic story mode and extreme physics-based gameplay, you never know what to expect as you strive to become king of the commuters.

STORY MODE: A LEGENDARY ODYSSEY

The story follows a day in the life of a typical commuter, Bert Beater. To start each day, Bert must make the daring trek across the Tollway of Souls to get to his place of work, the dry paint factory. This first level is a tone-setter for the heroics required in this preposterous and meandering modern-day odyssey...

ENEMY #1: TRAFFIC

Traffic is a lumbering beast that can only be conquered by an iron will. In the game mode, Honking Dominance, the only way for your ego to remain intact and to keep your head from exploding (literally), is to out-honk the other drivers on the road.

A HIGH-TECH ARMS RACE

Law and order in this late-stage capitalist wasteland requires weapons of advanced absurdity. Aside from the litany of donuts the cops will chunk at you, a seemingly infinite supply of tire spikes, and certain laser-firing "zap" droids they unleash upon your vehicle, these hogs are equipped with grappling hooks--in both their cruisers and helicopters! Lack the sufficient skill, and you will be airlifted straight to prison! And that's not even mentioning the smack talk these 'occiffer's cook up the whole way...

A GADGET SYSTEM

To survive this endless horde of psychoticially terrible and aggressive NPC drivers, the player must learn to spin much more than their steering wheel. Weapons such as the side-mounted, target-locking Traffic Obliterator have become basic instruments of survival.

A RAGE SYSTEM

NPC drivers have an overall mood along with a "relationship" rating with each other and the player. Actions on the roadway done by either NPC's or the player (i.e. honking, crashing, nearly crashing, grappling, donut chucking) negatively affect the target's values. NPC's can react to these events, ranging from shouting out of the window, to honking, to outright attacking the culprit. Some drivers have more patience than others, but even the most patient driver can be antagonized into a full-blown rage. In large groups, these interactions quickly spiral into total chaos...

...That is for the NPC's. The entire game serves as a rage system for the player.

A DAMAGE SYSTEM

Car parts can be mangled or completely fall off. Engines backfire, windows crack, the entire car frame compresses, and if totaled, the tires all pop off in humiliating fashion. There is a repair and respawn functionality where you get to watch invisible mechanics magically fix your car on-site, in real-time to soothing elevator music. A skip button is mercifully offered for those who do not appreciate the tasteful elevator music.

A LOVELY LITTLE WORLD

From inescapable toll gates, to gas pumps that go out of service half the time you use them, to massive, flaming multi-car pile-ups, to mazes of endless construction zones, to stray TV's, mattresses, ladders, couches, and more, the worldspace is a love letter to our wonderful late-stage capitalistic labyrinth of concrete we call home.

A FULL LIST OF MAPS

  • Commuter City: A massive, sprawling metropolis of metals, concrete, and exhaust. Days here are so smoggy they mimic night. Darkness looms over the scant visibility of deranged drivers, lost both here and in their hearts.

  • Country Roads: Outside the city lies a water treatment plant with secrets too dark to ever reach the newspaper.

  • Honkkam City: Another nearby massive metropolis that sprawls within the greater metroplex.

  • Suburbia: A technicolored utopia safe from all save the denizens who live there. Streets are named after fantasies while the endless rows of cookie-cutter houses are rooted in uninspiring reality.

  • The Desert of Decent Drivers: Multiple things are in short supply here.

  • The Loop of Commuter Rage: An uneconomically massive megastructure of neoclassical engineering clearly intended to shame the gods and please the masses. Home of the highly anticipated and annually televised race, Next Top Taxi Driver.

  • The Mix Master: The pinnacle of traffic engineering and a most infamous interchange.

    • "The previous [Commuter City] neutral tones slowly die into monochromaticity as the gasoline-induced smog blots all save that of the countless highways that overlap each other in every which direction hundreds of feet off of the ground."

A FULL LIST OF GAME MODES

  • Donut Hour: Flee the clutches of veteran policeman Chad Cruiser and his beloved arrest quota!

  • Driver War: Engage in an intense team deathmatch and use gadgets to dismantle the competition!

  • Free Play: Roam through the beautiful, dystopian sandbox of Commuter City and its surrounding locale!

  • Gladiatorial Taxi Racing: Survive and maybe (just maybe) win an annually televised and utterly brutal race against a gritty group of prospective taxi drivers looking to prove their worth. Fully commented by a dynamic duo that can't screw in a light bulb.

  • Honking Dominance: Honk your way home to establish dominance and proper roadway dignity!

  • Light Sitter: Follow the rules of the road in this grueling test of civic obedience!

  • Rush Hour: Navigate hordes of ravenous commuters and arrive at your destination before time runs out!
