What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“GuitarVee works with audio hardware, and guitars, audio interfaces, speakers and TVs all behave differently. A small test group cannot cover them all. Early Access puts the app in front of enough players and teachers to find the problems that only show up in daily use, and their feedback sets the order of what gets built next.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“Full release is planned for 2027. The date depends on what testing turns up. Updates ship throughout Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full release of GuitarVee will be heavily tested, polished, and include additional features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Everything listed on this page works now. That includes 100 public-domain songs with a song and tab editor, chords in 20 tunings and any capo, 13 amp models plus a custom head, 100 pedals, 9 cabinets, 150 amp presets and rigs, drum and bass loops on one clock with EQ and reverb (and drive for the bass), a Progression Builder, an eight-slot looper with WAV export, a metronome, a tuner, a Key Finder, Strum School with 74 patterns, theory games, technique exercises and lesson plans, practice tracking with streaks and 24 achievements, Steam Workshop, Steam Cloud and controller support.

Expect rough edges and occasional bugs. Saved data may need re-importing between some updates while the formats settle. The Steam Machine version is experimental. Windows is the full GuitarVee experience.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“At this time there is no planned price increase after the application leaves early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Bug reports and suggestions go to the developer by email and through the Steam discussion boards. Player reports decide what gets fixed first, and requests that come up often move up the list. Steam Workshop lets players share their own songs, rigs and packs. Feedback from teachers and students about using GuitarVee in lessons is especially welcome.”

About This Software

Early Access

GuitarVee is in active testing. Expect rough edges and changes between updates. Bug reports decide what gets fixed first. The Steam Machine version is experimental and still being worked on. Windows is the full GuitarVee experience.

Best with an audio interface

Plug your guitar into an audio interface and connect your speakers or headphones straight to its outputs. No interface? The Test Riff plays a built-in guitar part through the same amp and pedals.

Amp and pedals

  • 13 amp models plus a custom head, modeled on classic circuits: tone stacks, tube stages, sag and speaker voicings
  • 9 cabinets, 7 speaker voicings and mic placement
  • 100 pedals with search and tag filters, up to 10 on the board at once
  • Each pedal goes in front of the amp or in its effects loop
  • 150 amp presets and rigs
  • Drive and gain knobs are level-matched: turning them up adds distortion, not volume
  • Choose the input device, input channel and output, and see the measured delay while you play. On Windows the amp can play straight out of the interface

Band

  • Drum Loop and Bass Loop start from the top bar on any page and share one clock
  • Drum machine with 18 patterns, your own samples on any channel, and EQ and reverb for the kit
  • Bass in 12 styles that follows your chords, with EQ, Fuzz or Distortion, and reverb
  • Progression Builder: chords, bass and drums together, a beat map for bar lengths and time signatures, and the scales that fit
  • Looper with eight slots, mute, solo, level and pan, and WAV export
  • Metronome that starts and stops from any page

Learn and practice

  • Lesson plans of 10, 30 or 60 minutes in your key, each step opening the right tool
  • Strum School: 74 strumming patterns in three tiers, as a quiz and as a play-along over drums
  • 29 technique exercises with playable tab, and random tab on repeat
  • Note Hunt listens to your guitar and tells you which fret to move to
  • Theory games for ear training, intervals, scales, chords, progressions, the circle of fifths and the fretboard, with every answer explained
  • Key Finder: enter the notes you hear and it names the key
  • Chord Chart with a voicing solver for any tuning and capo, a Chord Builder that names what you play, and a Scale Chart
  • Tuner with reference tones and a chromatic mode, in 20 tunings or your own

Songs

  • 100 public-domain songs, plus a song and tab editor for your own
  • Chords follow your tuning and capo, transposed live
  • Song mode lights each chord on the beat, with a one-bar count-in and section looping
  • Setlists play one song into the next

Progress

  • The Scorecard home screen: streak, 12-week heatmap, weekly goal and levels
  • Practice Stats with total and active time
  • 24 achievements

Setup

  • Simple mode: big buttons and fewer controls for students, beginners and classrooms, with Full mode one switch away
  • Keyboard, mouse, touch or controller, and every screen works without a mouse
  • 40 color themes and adjustable text size
  • Works offline
  • Steam Cloud for your library and Steam Workshop for song and rig packs

GuitarVee is made for guitar students and instructors.
