Your desktop is the garden

Topsoil is a cozy desktop companion gardening game that turns the top edge of every window on your desktop into a living garden. Plant, tend and harvest while you work. Your browser becomes a tomato bed. Your code editor grows peas. Chat can look after the pumpkins for a while. 

Topsoil doesn't open a window. It grows on the ones you already have. Move a window and its garden comes with it. Make it wider and there is more room to plant. Everywhere outside the garden, your desktop works as normal.

Keep working, keep browsing, and pretend the corn is not getting taller during the meeting.

Plant a seed. Carry on.

Buy and plant seeds, water crops, spread fertilizer, clear weeds, spray bugs, and harvest when they are ready. Every crop grows differently. Some need more room. Some drink more water. Plant in season and the crop thrives. Plant against it and you will be working harder for the harvest.

Grow with the seasons

Spring, summer, autumn and winter roll through. The soil and grass change colour with them, and rain, snow and blown leaves drift across your screen.

Rain handles the watering for you. Hot weather leaves the soil thirsty. A hard freeze clears the weeds, and sends your crops, your frog and your goose to sleep along with them.

The forecast runs a week ahead. Prepare for a dry spell, hold out for rain, or plant anyway and deal with it later.

Employ a goose.

Your helpers take care of the repetitive work while you are away.

Scarecrows improve nearby crops. Frogs catch bugs. Sprinklers water the crops, beehives pollinate flowering crops while slowly filling with honey, and geese clears weeds and provides eggs for you to collect. 

Leave a garden alone and the work continues without you.

Improve how quickly crops grow, how much water they need, how well they resist pests, what they produce, and what the harvest is worth.

Your tools improve too. Reach farther, cover more ground, and turn a row of careful clicks into one satisfying sweep.

Topsoil moves at the pace you choose.

Pick from four different modes and decide how quickly the garden changes while you work. Keep things slow and relaxed, or choose a faster rhythm that brings harvests, weather, and seasons around more often.

The garden will not wait forever, but you decide how much attention it asks for.

Made for the desktop

Topsoil is there when you want it and stays out of the way when you do not.

Tend a garden for a few seconds, then return to whatever you were doing. Crops keep growing, weather keeps changing, and helpers keep working while your attention is elsewhere.

Come back later to find crops ready to harvest, honey waiting in a hive, or the goose still busy with the weeds.
