About This Game

The rookie in your display case just scored a hat trick. Reprice him.

You run a sports card shop. Your staff work the register; you work the market — deciding what wax to order, what to slab, what to price up, and which rookie nobody is on yet is worth a shelf.

Six weeks later the league tells you whether you were right.

Nobody knows who's good yet

Player talent is permanently hidden — even from you. You read box scores, pay a scout who gets one look and never a second, and listen to pundits who are guessing too. Certainty is not for sale.

Rip the wax yourself

Packs open card by card in real 3D — the seal peels, the card turns up, and the light travels across the foil. Pull something rare and the game stops to let you look at it.

A one-of-one is the only one

Every chase card comes off a finite print run tracked across the whole game world. When the last copy is gone it is gone — and the serial on the card you pulled is one nobody else can have.

Five leagues, playing right now

Hockey, football, baseball, basketball and soccer each run 32 teams through full seasons — real schedules, box scores, trades, injuries, playoffs and awards. They are fictional, which is exactly why they can have forty years of history, record books and retirees. Card prices move because of what happened last night.

You call the grade

When a customer brings a card to your counter you inspect it yourself — tilt it into the light, zoom into each corner, and put a number on centering, corners, edges and surface. Your worst call is the promise you're making, and the lab doesn't always agree.

Meet them in the middle

Buying and selling both run on one drag rail: your price, their price, and the gap between. Every round leaves a tick mark so you can triangulate what they'll actually take — and you can read their face while you do it.

Hire the help, keep the help

Staff work the register, restock the cases and take grading in without you. They also want raises, get worn down, and quit — so the shop that runs itself is the one you actually looked after.

Grow it from a shoebox

Start with a card corner and a box of singles. Buy the ground, move the walls, choose your fixtures and light your sign — five tiers from Card Corner to Premier Shop, each one earned and then paid for.

Some cards outgrow your counter

A slabbed one-of-one doesn't sell to a walk-in. It goes to auction — consigned to a quarterly catalogue, teased on the news crawl, argued over by television pundits who don't know what you paid, and knocked down live on the televisions hanging in your own shop. You can stand on the other side of the paddle too, bidding against a room that takes days to answer.

Glass worth more than most shops

An armored case costs several times the price of the finest ordinary card in the game. The vault costs more than that. Nothing unlocks them — you simply have to be able to write the cheque. What they buy is insurance you can afford on a card that valuable, and a room strangers come in off the street to look at. The premium is charged every day, like the rent.
