What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Capital City is a game with steadily increasing complexity. Balancing this complexity is a major challenge - one best addressed through community involvement during Early Access. We want to gather early feedback from the community on new features, resources, biomes, and other gameplay elements so that we can create the best possible content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently anticipate that the game will remain in Early Access for approximately one to two years. Our priority is to continuously improve the game and leave Early Access once we believe it is ready for full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan is to introduce a wider range of resources; and, by extension, biomes, buildings, districts, and research options during the Early Access period. Currently, late-game progression is somewhat limited by the absence of specific late-game resource types.
Furthermore, existing gameplay systems are set to be expanded. Additional transport options and other gameplay mechanics are also being considered and will be evaluated as development progresses.
Another key focus will be on offering players greater customization options. Possibilities under consideration include mod support, map editors, and other tools for more player-created content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of Capital City already features a high amount of content, including approximately 40 different resources, 40 buildings, 16 districts, and 10 distinct biomes, alongside core gameplay mechanics centered on construction, logistics, transport, and management. Districts are designed to reach level 10, with gameplay currently available up to level 5. Additionally, modular systems for events, government policies, festivals, and scenarios have already been technically implemented, laying the groundwork for further content updates during the Early Access period. Graphics, the dynamic lighting engine, and performance have already undergone extensive optimization and will continue to be improved throughout the Early Access phase.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. We plan to raise the price upon the release of the full version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will gather feedback via Steam, Reddit, and potentially other platforms, and actively engage with the community. We hope for plenty of feedback so that we can optimally continue developing our game.”

About This Game

Capital City combines city, resource, and transport management within a steampunk fantasy world.

You manage one of the known world's last remaining cities: Capital City.

Your goal is to gather resources from the lands surrounding Capital City. You will extract these resources using lumberjacks, mines, pumps, and other equipment. Most resources require further processing; you will build factories in the surrounding area, deliver the raw materials, and have them processed there.

You will then transport the finished products via your logistics network to Capital City, where your citizens - or specific districts - consume them to foster growth. The greater the quantity, specialization, and quality of the goods, the more Capital City expands, unlocking new possibilities in the process.

Over time, individual factories will grow into massive industrial clusters powered by modern steam technology. Simple dirt tracks will evolve into broad paved roads and double-track railways to handle ever-increasing volumes of goods. Yet, to maintain all of this, Capital City must continue to grow - and the cycle begins anew.

The City

Capital City is the cruicial point of our world. Your goal is to ensure its growth and supply. It consists of various districts, each serving a different function.

  • Residential districts are the city's lifeblood; they provide housing but also require luxury goods and food to sustain the population.

  • Research districts form the city's scientific backbone, utilizing raw materials to facilitate vital research.

  • Recreation and monument districts are key facilities that offer residents peace and relaxation while providing you with various bonuses in exchange for a maintenance cost.

  • Logistics districts and train stations serve as your link to the outside world, where goods are delivered and distributed throughout the city.

And many, many more.

The Countryside

The vast surroundings of Capital City consist of an infinite, procedurally generated world teeming with resources and diverse biomes. The world is divided into zones that must first be unlocked (requiring an investment of resources) to gain access to the secrets they hold.

Expansive grasslands, fertile green lushlands, vast lake landscapes, dense jungles, murky swamps, and even more exotic terrains await you. Each biome offers unique raw materials, distinct landscapes, and perhaps even different... dangers?

At first, you will find wood, stone, and food. Later, however, you will wrest exotic goods from perilous landscapes and craft vital luxury items for Capital City using resources such as Blood Crystals, Mistberries, and Burnstone.

The Industry

Capital City is the brain of your empire, but industry is its heart. You will extract resources from the surrounding area, though most are unusable by Capital City in their raw form.

You will build factories, connect them to your logistics network, and combine one or more resources there to create new goods. Factories operate more efficiently when similar facilities are grouped together; over time, this creates industrial clusters linked to Capital City via high-performance transport hubs and routes.

  • Cloth workshops, furniture factories, and soap plants produce goods to meet the city's basic needs.

  • Iron smelters produce steel: A raw material used for industrial pumps, railway tracks, and more.

  • And many, many others.

And more!

  • Vast statistics and dashboards provide all the information you need regarding transport routes, factory efficiency, production output, and raw material consumption. Plan ahead to avoid shortages!

  • An extensive scenario system constantly introduces new challenges or events that alter the flow of the game and force you to re-evaluate your priorities.

  • A dynamic lighting system featuring a day-night cycle bathes the world in brilliant morning light or nocturnal darkness - pierced only by the headlights of your trains or the glow of the city.

  • Built-in editors allow you to create your own content; you can easily design custom events, scenarios, festivals, or government policies.
