What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Star Corsairs is a large game built by one person. Hundreds of hours have gone into its economy, combat and exploration, and the one thing it still lacks is live players.

I want to release it in Early Access because a game like this cannot be balanced alone. Whether trading pays off against bounty hunting, whether the pirates hit too hard, whether a wormhole run is worth its risk — those questions aren't answered by spreadsheets, they're answered by hundreds of players with their own styles.

Early Access gives me what no internal testing can: real routes, real complaints and real numbers.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly one year.

That should be enough to finish the story campaign, rebalance the economy against player feedback and polish the technical rough edges. If players show me it needs longer, I'll say so openly and update this estimate rather than quietly let it slip.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Planned for the full version:

- A finished story campaign. Early Access ships the first part of the story; the full version carries it through to its ending.
- More late-game content. New unique opponents, rare finds and events for players who have finished the main path.
- A balanced economy. Prices, rewards and ship costs tuned against real player statistics rather than my own guesses.
- Polish. Performance, interface comfort and hundreds of small fixes driven by feedback.
Not planned: multiplayer or in-game purchases. The game is and stays single-player, bought once.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable from the opening to a deep run. Already in:

46 ships — from interceptors to capitals, with distinct roles: some fast and fragile, others slow and durable.
A living economy: over 100 commodities, shifting markets, smuggling and station-to-station contracts across eight nations.
Tactical combat against an AI that actually manoeuvres: it turns broadside, keeps its distance, hunts in groups.
Captain progression: experience, levels, passive and active skills, officers, boarding enemy hulls.
Wormholes: over 50 pocket-dimension events, a hacking minigame, legendary bosses with exclusive loot.
Sector events — encounters that happen mid-flight.
Not finished yet: the story doesn't reach its ending, the economy will change as feedback comes in, and there are rough interface edges and occasional bugs.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The game is cheaper during Early Access — that's the discount for coming in early and helping finish it. The price will go up when the full version launches.

Everyone who buys during Early Access gets the full version at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I read the Steam community hub and answer there myself — there's nobody between me and the players.

What I need most: bug reports, balance impressions (what feels too easy or too brutal) and accounts of how you actually play — trading, fighting or diving into wormholes. I explain balance changes in the update notes: what changed and why.”

About This Game

Star Corsairs

Star Corsairs is a single-player 2D space RPG where every captain chooses their own path.

Build your fortune through a living economy, battle pirates and other dangerous enemies, explore mysterious wormhole anomalies, and uncover rare technology. Become a trader, bounty hunter, pirate, or smuggler—how you survive is entirely up to you.

LIVING ECONOMY

The galaxy runs on supply and demand. Trade over 100 different commodities between stations, complete lucrative contracts, or risk everything by smuggling illegal cargo.

Markets react to your actions. Flood the market with the same goods, and prices will crash before your eyes.

ACTICAL SPACE COMBAT

Your enemies don't just fly straight at you. They keep their distance, maneuver for better firing angles, attack in groups, and exploit your mistakes.

Hire escort wings, manage weapon heat, master your ship's strengths, and board enemy vessels to claim valuable loot.

46 UNIQUE SHIPS

From agile interceptors to massive capital ships, every vessel offers a distinct playstyle.

Heavy warships can absorb tremendous punishment but turn slowly, while fast raiders rely on speed and precision—one mistake can be fatal.

CAPTAIN PROGRESSION

Gain experience, level up, and customize your captain to fit your preferred playstyle.

Unlock active and passive abilities, recruit officers with unique specializations, and overcome stronger opponents through tactical boarding actions.

WORMHOLE ANOMALIES

Venture into mysterious pocket dimensions filled with danger and valuable rewards.

Discover more than 50 unique encounters, including abandoned wrecks to hack, ancient structures, mysterious space creatures, and legendary bosses guarding loot that can't be bought anywhere else.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I'm not a professional game developer or artist. Making my own game had been a dream for years, but I never knew how to turn that dream into reality. Generative AI became the tool that finally made it possible.

With its help, I created many of the game's visual and audio assets, including item, UI, skill, and module icons, character portraits, ships, space stations, backgrounds, the game icon, the Steam store artwork, and some of the sound effects. It also assisted me with programming.

But Star Corsairs is not a game that AI simply generated. Every asset was reviewed, rejected, refined, or replaced until it matched the vision I had in mind. Every gameplay system was designed, tested, and reworked repeatedly until it felt right. The economy, ship balance, pirate AI, combat, and progression were all shaped through countless hours of playtesting and manual iteration. The story, world, and all of the writing were created by me.

Without generative AI, this game would probably never have existed. But without the countless creative decisions, revisions, and work behind every part of it, Star Corsairs wouldn't exist either.
