What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“StoneEra has a playable foundation, but its colony simulation and progression are still being developed. I want to build the next stages with players, not only test the existing game. How settlements grow, which production and research choices are most interesting, and how villagers and their needs interact are areas where the design can still change.

Early Access gives players a way to share their experiences and ideas while those decisions are open. Their feedback will help shape which gameplay additions and changes I explore, their design and their priority as the game develops.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently estimate that StoneEra will remain in Early Access for roughly 12–18 months. This is an estimate, not a fixed release date: development time will depend on testing, player feedback, and the work needed to improve progression, stability, performance, and usability. I will share progress and revise this estimate as development continues.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version, I plan to expand colony progression and the choices players make as their settlements grow. Areas I want to develop include research and production options, villager work and needs, construction, and the ways transport, water and seasonal survival connect to the wider colony. I also plan to add content that supports these systems, alongside improvements to usability, performance and reliability.

The exact additions, their design and order are not final. I will use player feedback and experience with the Early Access version to help decide what is most valuable to develop. These are plans rather than guaranteed features; please buy the game for what is playable today.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You can create a procedural voxel world, reshape its terrain and establish a settlement in Normal or Creative mode. Villagers gather, farm, mine, haul physical containers, construct buildings and make food, clothing, tools and other supplies. The game includes 28 research technologies, connected production chains, a travelling merchant, animal pens, seasons and weather, resident skills and perks, and working water and cargo systems. You can design reusable building plans and save your colony to continue later.

The full game opens research and production beyond the free demo's 12 early technologies. It is single-player and supports Windows and macOS, with eight interface languages: English, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese. See the About This Game section for more details about the features and content currently available.

StoneEra is still in active development. Expect bugs, balance changes and rough edges. The Building Editor and reusable building plans are particularly early features. Performance and villager behavior in larger, more complex colonies remain areas of ongoing work. There is no story campaign or multiplayer mode.

I aim to preserve existing saves where possible. Some updates may require a new world; any known compatibility limits will be explained in update notes. Keep backups of colonies you want to retain.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I currently plan to keep the base-game price unchanged during Early Access and increase it when the full version is released. The amount of any increase has not been decided, and I will announce pricing changes in advance. Buying the base game during Early Access includes its future base-game updates and the full release. The optional cosmetic Supporter Pack is separate.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I invite players to share ideas, gameplay experiences and bug reports in the Steam discussions and the StoneEra Discord, linked from the store page and main menu. I want to hear where colony progression offers too few meaningful choices, which research and production options players would like to explore, and how villager work, needs and construction could develop.

I will use that feedback to inform both the design and priority of future gameplay changes and additions. I plan to discuss ideas and development progress with the community through Steam discussions and announcements, and explain changes in update notes. Feedback can change the direction and scope of the game, although not every suggestion can be implemented.”

About This Game

BUILD A COLONY. SHAPE ITS WORLD.

StoneEra is a solo-developed, single-player voxel colony survival game. Establish a medieval settlement in a procedurally generated world, organize your villagers’ work, and grow from a small camp into a colony shaped by your choices. Dig into hillsides, mine resources, and build block by block.

A SETTLEMENT BUILT BY YOUR VILLAGERS

Assign gathering, farming, mining, crafting, hauling, and construction work. Villagers collect materials and turn them into food, tools, clothing, and building supplies. Balance production with food, rest, and your settlement’s needs. Your people have distinct appearances, skills, and daily routines.

DISCOVER, PRODUCE, AND TRADE

Research technologies at a research table using material samples and a resident’s study time. Develop connected production chains, from bread and timber to copper, iron, and waterworks. A travelling merchant visits by cow wagon: barter supplies, request goods for a later visit, and complete settlement commissions to earn rewards and trust.

DESIGN YOUR OWN BUILDING PLANS

Assemble a design in the Building Editor, save it locally, and place it through the gameplay Buildings menu. Rotate your plan and send villagers to prepare the site, construct it, and install furniture or production stations. Use creative editing tools, floor visibility controls, and Undo/Redo.

Building plans and the Building Editor are very early alpha experiments. Expect bugs, rough edges, and changes as development continues.

ENGINEER THE WATER AROUND YOU

Water flows through the world and reacts to terrain changes. Dig channels, redirect streams, and work with rivers, lakes, and waterfalls. Connect wooden channels and pipes, build wind-powered pumps and water wheels, and develop your own waterworks. Villagers construct the systems you plan in normal gameplay.

SHARE THE WORLD WITH ANIMALS

Explore forests, mountains, wetlands, steppe, and taiga with 20 wildlife species. Animals roam, rest, grow, and raise young. Tame animals into fenced pens, prepare feed, and care for them. Weather, four seasons, and the day/night cycle accompany your colony’s life.

BUILD AT YOUR OWN PACE

Play normal settlement mode with resident work, resources, and research progression, or use Creative mode to experiment with building and crafting. Decorate your settlement, reshape the landscape, and save your world to continue later. The interface supports English, Russian, German, French, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese.

TRY THE FREE DEMO

The demo has no session timer and includes 12 early technologies through ore smelting, plus 11 Steam achievements. Smelt your first copper bar to complete the demo journey, then keep building. Later research, crafting, and construction belong to the full game. StoneEra is in active development; the full game is coming soon.
