What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“After Silence is a deeply personal project built by a solo developer. I'm using Early Access to refine the core gameplay loop, the visceral third-person combat, the bodycam-style tension, and the deep customization mechanics. With the help of the community. After Silence lives and dies by its atmosphere and mechanics, and I want to ensure the final experience is as terrifying and immersive as possible. Early Access allows me to test these systems in the real world, gather crucial feedback, and build the rest of the planned features alongside a dedicated community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I anticipate After Silence being in Early Access for approximately 12 to 18 months. However, as a solo developer, the timeline will ultimately depend on the scope of the feedback and the complexity of the features we implement together. I plan to release regular, substantial updates rather than rushing to a finish line, ensuring the game is truly ready when it leaves Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version features the core combat mechanics, the gunsmithing system, and the opening chapters of the narrative, set within the initial Grid sectors. Moving forward, I plan to build upon this foundation. My current vision for the full release includes further developing the narrative arc and exploring the addition of new environments, such as the Deep Woods and the Sump. I also aim to refine enemy AI and behaviors, expand voice acting for key characters, and continue optimizing the game for a polished experience. Additionally, I hope to introduce a more robust progression system and extra side-missions to further flesh out the world of Evergreen. Please note that specific features and development priorities may evolve based on community feedback and the natural progression of the project.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access build is fully playable and features a solid foundation of the core gameplay loop. The third-person and first person shooting mechanics, physical object interactions, and the deep gunsmithing system are implemented and functional. This also includes both the story mode and FPS mode. The opening narrative sequence is in place, allowing players to experience the initial descent into the world of Black Protocol. However, as an ongoing solo project, you may encounter performance optimizations still in progress and occasional bugs. The core experience is there, but the polish and surrounding content are still being actively developed.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, I plan to slightly increase the price of the game upon its full 1.0 release. This is to reward the players who join us during Early Access, take the time to provide feedback, and support the development of After Silence from the ground up. The Early Access price reflects the current state of the build, while the full release price will reflect the completed, polished experience.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement is the backbone of After Silence's development. I am highly active on our official Discord server and the Steam Community Hub. I plan to use these platforms to gather direct feedback on weapon balancing, movement mechanics, and narrative pacing. I will be running regular community playtests for new builds, hosting Q&A sessions, and using player bug reports to prioritize fixes. Your feedback will directly shape the gunsmithing tweaks, enemy AI behaviors, and the overall difficulty curve of the final game.”

EARLY ACCESS CONTENT

After Silence is launching in Early Access with a robust foundation of content, allowing players to experience both the narrative depth and the tactical gameplay immediately.

  • Full Narrative Story Mode: Experience the opening chapters of the campaign. A fully realized, cinematic narrative mode that establishes the grimdark world of Evergreen, the collapse of Black Protocol, and Sarah’s desperate fight for her son.

  • Tactical FPS Mode: Drop into high-stakes, standalone combat scenarios. Test your loadouts, refine your mechanics, and survive waves of Black Protocol Cleaners and Hollowed threats in a dedicated, replayable shooter experience.

  • The Shooting Range: A dedicated sandbox environment designed for mastering your arsenal. Test weapon ballistics, experiment with attachment synergies, and learn recoil patterns in a controlled setting before hitting the field.

  • Two Fully Realized FPS Maps:

    • The Container Yard: A claustrophobic, multi-level industrial maze. Navigate stacked shipping containers and rusted catwalks in a high-intensity, close-quarters combat environment.

    • St. Elias Hospital: A sprawling, atmospheric subterranean labyrinth. Move through sterile white corridors, ruined sub-basements, and flickering emergency-lit wards in a tense, survival-horror-infused firefight.

KEY FEATURES

After Silence is not just another tactical shooter; it is a hybrid experience that marries the visceral mechanics of a high-fidelity FPS with the emotional weight of a literary thriller.

  • A True Hybrid Experience: Seamlessly transition between a deep, narrative-driven Story Mode and a robust, mechanically rich Tactical FPS Mode. You aren't just playing a shooter; you are surviving a story.

  • Physics-Based Traversal: Movement matters. Navigate environments using realistic, physics-based mechanics. Vaulting, sliding, and climbing feel weighty and grounded, making every firefight a dynamic, three-dimensional puzzle.

  • Granular Weapon Customization: Overhaul your arsenal with a deep gunsmithing system. Modify barrels, optics, grips, and ammunition types to fundamentally alter weapon handling, recoil patterns, and damage profiles to suit your tactical doctrine.

  • Operator Selection: Choose from a roster of specialized operatives before deploying. Each operator brings unique tactical advantages, passive traits, and starting loadouts, allowing you to tailor your approach to the mission.

  • Visceral, High-Impact Combat: Experience the terrifying weight of every bullet. High recoil, realistic ballistics, and a lethal time-to-kill mean every engagement is a desperate, adrenaline-fueled fight for survival.

FORGED IN FICTION: THE STORY CAME FIRST

Before the first line of code was written, before the first concept sketch was drawn, there was the story. After Silence is built upon the foundation of The Weight of the Silence, a massive, 60,000+ word dystopian thriller novel developed over three years by 16-year-old solo developer Zac (Token Studios).

This is not a game with a script; it is a game with a soul.

  • 16 Chapters of Relentless Narrative: The game's lore is backed by a complete, standalone novel featuring 16 chapters of meticulously crafted prose.

  • 4 Unique Perspectives: The story is told through the eyes of four deeply flawed, morally grey characters: Sarah (the betrayed mother), Vance (the complicit commander), Kaelan (the radicalized rebel), and Dr. Voss (the architect of the horror).

  • A Literary Foundation: By writing the novel first, the world of Evergreen, the mechanics of Compound Z, and the tragic cost of survival were fully realized before the game was ever built. The game doesn't just adapt the book; it expands upon it, allowing you to physically inhabit the devastating world the text created.

In an industry obsessed with transmedia from day one, we took a different path. We believed that story must be the foundation, not an afterthought. After Silence proves that passion has no age limit, and that the most terrifying monsters aren't the ones in the dark—they're the ones who signed the orders.

BACK THE KICKSTARTER NOW:

About This Game

After Silence is a story-driven, third-person survival hybrid built in Unreal Engine 5 that seamlessly blends visceral, bodycam-style tactical combat with a deeply personal narrative. Players navigate a decaying dystopian world controlled by the corrupt Black Protocol, utilizing deep gunsmithing customization, realistic physical object interactions, and brutal, high-impact recoil to survive. More than just a shooter, it is an immersive narrative experience where every tactical decision and bullet fired carries the heavy, unforgiving weight of a mother's relentless fight for survival.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

AI text generation is strictly limited to randomized in-game environmental logs and dynamic NPC dialogue barks. I utilize strict prompt engineering and a curated, developer-approved vocabulary list to ensure only generic, lore-appropriate tactical text is generated. No real-world names, brands, or copyrighted phrases are included in the generation parameters.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

After Silence features intense, realistic violence and gore consistent with the survival horror genre, including blood splatter, visceral combat, and tactical weapon impacts. The narrative explores heavy mature themes such as child endangerment, human experimentation, psychological trauma, and dehumanization. The game contains no sexual content, sexual violence, or depictions of drug abuse.
