Your supermarket needs more than full shelves

In Retail Nation: My Supermarket, combine hands-on store work with building and leading your own business. Design your layout from above, step behind the checkout and give your stock, employees and customers the attention they need.

Start with a small store and decide how to grow. Will you invest in a new department, a better-trained team or more space? Every step brings decisions to your daily operation.

Build a store that suits your approach

Plan your layout, create departments and place shelves, checkouts, lighting and decorations. Expand your store space and parking, and divide the available space between shopping areas, storage and staff facilities.

Set up cold rooms and freezer rooms, keeping access and walking routes in mind. Give your store its own identity through its name, colours, storefront, department signs, plants and decorations. Your calendar settings determine which seasons and holidays bring temporary products and matching decorations.

Keep your store running every day

Order stock, receive deliveries and fill the shelves. Build your assortment with everyday groceries, fresh produce, bakery items, chilled products and frozen goods. House-brand and supplier-brand variants are available for part of the range.

Set selling prices, plan promotions and use ordering recommendations to match purchasing to sales. Monitor shelf life, waste, cold storage and operating costs. A well-stocked store needs to stay financially healthy too.

Get to know your team and help it grow

Recruit employees, assign roles and plan schedules. Account for breaks, workload, wellbeing and sickness. Have conversations on the shop floor, make commitments and follow up on them. Coaching and training help employees develop their skills.

Promote an eligible employee to team leader and choose which responsibilities to delegate. Your role develops alongside the store: you can keep working on the floor while gaining more ways to guide others and share responsibilities.
