Salty is a 2D evolution game seen down a microscope. Guide one cell from simple prokaryote to complex multicellular life: craft organelles, fight off invading viruses, outgrow rival cells, and evolve toward the day you crawl out of the water.

About This Game

It starts with one cell. Goal to become a multicellular organism!

Salty puts you at the eyepiece of a microscope, looking down at a single prokaryote adrift in saltwater. No nucleus. No defenses. No idea what's coming.

Everything that happens next is up to you.

Build the machinery of life

Gather lipids, proteins, and fiber from the water around you, then spend them in the crafting ring to assemble real organelles — nucleus pores, ribosomes, mitochondria, Golgi bodies, lysosomes, endoplasmic reticulum. Each one you build genuinely changes what your organism can do, exactly as it does in a living cell.

Survive a hostile microscopic world

You are not alone in the water. Aggressive viruses hunt for cells to hijack. Larger, more complex organisms will run you down and consume you. Watch your health and stamina, learn what's dangerous, and grow strong enough to stop being prey.

Discover and evolve

Every species you swim close to is recorded in your Compendium — real organisms with real biology, hazards, and secrets. Discovery unlocks new DNA. New DNA unlocks new complexity. Push from prokaryote to eukaryote, from single cell to multicellular creature.

Real biology, underneath all of it

Every organelle does what it actually does. The evolutionary pressures are the ones that shaped life on this planet. Salty was built so that getting good at the game means genuinely understanding how cells work — no quizzes, no lectures, no homework.

  • A complete cell, built by hand — learn organelles by depending on them
  • Living biomes — from kelp forests to volcanic vents
  • Real threats — viral infection, predation, competition
  • The long climb — prokaryote to eukaryote to multicellular life
  • A living Compendium — discover and catalogue real microscopic species
