What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Railhold already has its main gameplay loop in place, but a game with this many weapons, upgrades and turret combinations needs plenty of real player testing. Early Access will help me improve the balance, pacing and overall feel of the game with player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect Railhold to remain in Early Access for around 12 to 18 months. This may change depending on player feedback and how much the game evolves during development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to include more enemies, bosses, environments, train parts, crew and build options. I also plan to improve balancing, performance, accessibility and presentation. Priorities may change based on what players enjoy most.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core endless mode is playable. You can build and expand your armored train, install and upgrade turrets, recruit crew, visit stations and fight increasingly dangerous waves and bosses. The main systems are working, but content, balancing and polish are still being developed.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to keep the Early Access price lower while the game is still growing. The price may increase when Railhold reaches version 1.0 to reflect the additional content and polish.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will follow bug reports, suggestions and balance discussions through the Steam Community. Feedback about turret synergies, difficulty, pacing and interface clarity will be especially useful. Updates and important changes will be shared through regular development posts and patch notes.”

About This Game

The wasteland is overrun, and the railway is your only way through.

Railhold is a top-down action roguelite tower defense built around an armored train. Add new wagons, mount weapons and put together a crew capable of keeping the train alive as enemies attack from every direction.

Most battles happen while the train is moving. Your defenses need to cover the entire convoy, and every wagon you add creates something new that must be protected. Place turrets on available hardpoints, upgrade important systems and use commander abilities when your defenses begin to buckle.

Stations give you a moment to repair, reorganize and prepare for what lies further down the line. Resources are limited, so you will have to decide which parts of the train are worth improving and which weaknesses you can afford to leave exposed.

Every run gives you different upgrades, encounters and opportunities to shape your convoy. Experiment with weapon combinations, recruit crew with useful abilities and adapt your strategy before the next horde—or something much larger—reaches the tracks.

Features:

  • Build and expand your own armored train

  • Defend the convoy during real-time battles

  • Mount, upgrade and combine different turret types and form over 45 different turret synergies.

  • Recruit crew members to operate and strengthen the train

  • Make repairs and difficult upgrade choices at stations

  • Face increasingly dangerous mutants and massive bosses

  • Discover new builds through replayable roguelite runs

  • Keep the train moving for as long as you can

Build the train. Hold the line. Keep moving.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

AI tools were used during development as a learning and support aid. They helped me understand development workflows, troubleshoot technical problems, explore gameplay and UI ideas, and create early concept images used as visual references. All final decisions, implementation, balancing, and content selection were handled and reviewed by me. No AI content is generated during gameplay.
